Travel is always exciting, but as we grow older, there are some destinations that lose their appeal. Whether it’s the crowds, exhausting physical demands or the hype itself – some of the popular travel destinations just aren’t really fun after a certain age. If you’re looking for something a little more laid back and enjoyable, here are 12 places that won’t be worth the hype at 60.

Times Square, New York City

Though Times Square itself is an iconic place, the crowds, noise and light quickly become exhausting. It’s fun for a day trip but, once you’re a certain age, it’s less fun and more of a chore than a fun experience. A quiet corner of NYC such as Greenwich Village or Central Park is more pleasant.
The Las Vegas Strip

The Vegas hype may be enticing on the surface, but the loud casinos, neon lights, & sensory overload can make you feel overwhelmed. For those looking to enjoy a slower pace, the Strip’s fast-paced energy just doesn’t match the laid-back vibe many travelers are after at 60.

Machu Picchu, Peru

Machu Picchu is beautiful, but it can be challenging because of the altitude. The high climbs, long treks and physical exertion can be exhausting rather than fun. You might prefer a more laid-back history tour of an ancient city or some historic ruin for a more leisurely experience of history.
The Great Wall of China

The Great Wall is an absolute must-see, though its uneven stairs and steep sections aren’t for anyone with weak knees. Walking across miles on the rough terrain is uncomfortable – even with access to transportation, it’s hard to do. Visiting the surrounding cities or smaller places will be more convenient for a more leisurely cultural tour.
Santorini, Greece

It’s hard not to be captivated by the beautiful views and sunsets of Santorini, but the narrow winding streets and endless staircases can be tough on your legs. Add in the crowds in high season and it’s not exactly the best place for the elderly. For something a bit more quiet, head to coastal cities such as Nafplio or Hydra.
Disney World, Florida

Disney World is magic for kids and grandkids – but the lines, walking and noise levels can soon become overwhelming for adults. If you prefer a more laid-back holiday, choose more peaceful parks or day trips to nearby wildlife refuges.
Dubai, UAE

The modern skyline and opulence of Dubai is pretty good but if you don’t like shopping malls and superyachts, then it’s just not that cool. It also gets very hot and the city will exhaust you pretty quick. It’s more authentic to visit the countryside or smaller cities in the UAE.
Everest Base Camp, Nepal

Everest Base Camp Trekking is an amazing experience, however it’s not for everyone — because it’s so high, difficult and physically exhausting. For anyone not at the peak of their fitness, the extreme heights and lack of comfort are not ideal conditions. There are more hospitable Himalayan areas or beautiful villages you can visit.
The Hollywood Walk of Fame, Los Angeles

The Walk of Fame, for all its celebrity appeal, is in fact a tourist trap full of tourists, street artists & overpriced gift shops. A day in this madness becomes tedious for anyone over 60. You can get a much more relaxed California trip by going to Santa Barbara or Big Sur.
The Louvre, Paris

The Louvre is filled with amazing art but it’s also huge and quite daunting to walk around. Hundreds gather in front of great works so it’s hard to enjoy without feeling rushed. A quieter, smaller museum or art gallery in Paris feels a little more personal.
Mount Fuji, Japan

There’s nothing like seeing Mount Fuji and its grandeur, but you’re going to need to push yourself when climbing or hiking around it. The unpredictable weather and mountainous environment make it difficult for anyone who likes to take it easy. Visit local hot springs or nearby towns for a more laid-back experience.
Venice, Italy

Venice is a romantic place – but it’s also an exhausting place with all its narrow lanes, bridges and people everywhere. You can get overwhelmed when you are stuck in the maze of canals, particularly during the busy tourist season. A city such as Bologna or the small towns of the Veneto region is a better place to enjoy Italian life without the masses.
