I’ve always been interested in things I didn’t have the time or nerve to do before. What began as a simple thought quickly turned into an adventure of finding hobbies that brought so much happiness and meaning to my life. Painting, gardening, playing the violin – these hobbies have completely altered my day in a new and unexpected way.

Gardening

I always thought gardening was something people did when they had lots of time on their hands. I never thought I would love it so much! I started small with some potted plants on my balcony – now I have a little garden in my backyard. It feels so good to play in the dirt, watch things sprout & pick vegetables or flowers. Not to mention, it’s a workout without feeling like one.
Learning a New Instrument

I never thought I’d play a musical instrument, but the ukulele has changed that. You can start out with basic chords, and there’s just something happy about strumming while singing along. Even if nobody’s around, it’s good way to unwind and challenge my brain.

Painting

When I first began to paint, I didn’t quite know what to expect. Turns out it’s a great creative outlet. I’m not going for a grand masterpiece, just something simple and bright, to add a bit of color to my walls. It’s actually very therapeutic to play around with colors and just go with the flow of my brush.
Tai Chi

I thought Tai Chi was all about slow, meditative movement, but it’s much more. My body feels balanced and at ease with the slow movements and breathing. Even after a single session, I notice an improvement in my range of motion and posture. It’s a habit I look forward to every week.
Birdwatching

What began as a curiosity is now an obsession. I have spent hours now looking at and trying to recognize different bird species. I have a little notebook where I write down each sighting and what birds I saw. I like how calm it’s to sit there and listen to them sing while watching them move around.
Writing

I used to believe that writing was something for kids, but I’m so happy I decided to try it out. Journaling, writing short stories, even a little blogging – writing is just the best way for me to journal and let my inner voice come out. It’s nice to write something that people like reading.
Cooking from Scratch

I’d been living off ready-prepared foods and ordering takeout over the years. I like to try my hand at cooking for myself now. Making bread or pasta or even jam on the stove made me appreciate food more. It’s also a great excuse to get in the kitchen and impress my friends with homemade foods!
Photography

I’ve always been attracted to beautiful scenery but with photography, that has gone a little further. Whether it is the sunset or a simple nature scene, photography helps me capture those moments. Not to mention, editing my photos is something I’ve enjoyed being creative with.
Volunteering

Giving back has been one of the greatest pleasures. Volunteering has been a way for me to connect with like-minded people and make a difference – from volunteering at community gardens to supporting local charities. It’s nice to feel like I’m doing something that matters.
Dancing

Dancing is my go-to entertainment. Whether I’m at a Zumba class or simply moving around the house to my favorite music, it is so enjoyable. I don’t have to be perfect — just dancing to the beat makes me feel good instantly. It reminds me that we don’t have to be young to enjoy the things we do!
