We live in an age where technology is everywhere, making our lives simpler and more pleasurable. Not all gadgets are helpful, though. Some are downright ridiculous and make you say “Who needs this?” These gadgets claim to fix problems no one has or provide features nobody asked for. Some are pretty cool, but the majority are a waste of money. Here are some of the most absurd new gadgets nobody really needs.

Smart Toaster

A wirelessly connected toaster sounds cool, yet it doesn’t do much more than a regular toaster. You can adjust it on your phone. But why toast bread while you’re sitting on the couch? An ordinary toaster costs less, is simpler to use, and gets the job done without going overboard.
Wi-Fi-Enabled Water Bottle

This water bottle is linked to an app and reminds you to stay hydrated all day long. It even counts the amount you’ve drunk. Keeping water intake up is important, but this thing is costly and pointless. You can save yourself the trouble and expense by using a reusable bottle and a little bit of effort to remember.

Egg Minder

The Egg Minder is a smart egg tray that counts your eggs and tells you if they are fresh. It’s linked to your phone to send notifications. But let’s be honest – you can check your fridge and easily test the eggs yourself. Paying for a tray is too much.
Smart Hairbrush

This is a sensor hairbrush that will tell you if you’re brushing too hard or if your hair needs special treatment. And it even delivers hair health updates to your phone. As fancy as it sounds, most people don’t require their brush to be a hairstylist. A regular brush and a bit of hair knowledge is enough.
Bluetooth-Connected Salt Shaker

Not only does this salt shaker salt your food, but it also lights up, plays music, and charges your phone. It’s flashy but not necessary. Why buy a fancy shaker when a regular one works fine?
Automatic Pet Selfie Device

This device helps you to selfie with your pet by clipping a treat to your phone and getting their attention. It’s cute but it’s not necessary. You can carry the treat in your hand and take the picture. It’s an unnecessary solution to a simple problem.
Smart Fork

The smart fork vibrates if you are overeating. It measures what you’re eating and transmits it to an app. Conscious eating is great, but you don’t need a very expensive fork to do this. You can just try to eat slowly and chew well.
Voice-Activated Trash Can

This trashcan opens when you voice activate it, so you don’t need your hands. It’s cool but normal foot-operated trash cans are just as easy to use and a whole lot cheaper. Adding voice commands to a bin is like tackling a problem where there is none.
Self-Stirring Mug

A mug that whisks up your coffee or tea at the touch of a button might be cool but it’s just not practical. It must be charged or plugged in, and it can be difficult to clean. You can do the same with a spoon but without the hassle and expense.
Smart Plant Pot

This plant pot waters your plants and reports their status to your phone. It’s useful if you forget to take care of your plants often, but it’s expensive too. Tending plants by hand is a great joy and a little attention can go a long way. This tool takes away that simple pleasure.
