10 Renter Complaints Many Landlords Say They Are Tired of Hearing

Landlords are no strangers to tenant complaints and they have to handle all kinds of issues, whether they’re maintenance problems or neighbor disputes. And while some of these problems are new, many are the same old complaints they’ve been dealing with for years—it gets frustrating hearing the same things over & over again. Here are ten common renter complaints that landlords are just tired of hearing. If you’re a renter, take this as a sign that you might want to stop bringing these issues up.

“The Rent’s Too High!”

It’s almost a given that tenants will complain about rent prices and while we’d all love to pay less, landlords have their own stack of bills to worry about, such as mortgages & insurance. They’re not just pocketing all that cash because they use it to keep the place running. Hearing tenants nag about lowering the rent gets tiring after a while, especially since landlords price their rentals based on market rates.

“My Neighbors Won’t Keep It Down!”

Noise complaints are a dime a dozen, regardless of whether it’s footsteps from above, kids playing next door, or the occasional late-night chatter—shared living spaces come with sounds. Of course, landlords may step in when things get out of hand, like non-stop parties, but they can’t enforce absolute silence. It’s just not realistic to expect complete quiet and landlords get tired of playing referee for every little noise.

“The Internet Here Is So Slow!”

Having slow internet feels like you’re living in the Dark Ages and tenants often blame landlords for sluggish Wi-Fi, expecting them to fix it ASAP—but here’s the thing. Internet speed usually depends on the service provider, not the building itself, so unless there’s an issue with the wiring, landlords can’t really do anything. It gets frustrating when tenants think their landlords can simply flip a switch to make the internet faster because it doesn’t work like that.

“There’s Nowhere to Park!”

Finding parking is a nightmare in the city, especially in busy areas, which is why tenants often vent about the lack of spots, although landlords can’t magically create more space. They’re limited by the property’s size & local regulations, so it’s plain annoying when tenants blame them for parking issues beyond their control. There just isn’t enough pavement to go around and many landlords wish tenants would cut them some slack.

No matter where you live, temperature troubles are a constant source of complaints, with one tenant wanting it cooler while another one claims they’re freezing—there’s just no pleasing everyone. Landlords set the thermostat to a reasonable level but they can’t cater to each person’s comfort zone because that’s for the renters to do. They’re landlords, after all, rather than people who can control the climate.

“These Walls Are So Drab!”

Not everyone appreciates beige walls & standard fixtures but there’s a reason landlords go for them—choosing neutral tones appeals to the majority of people, as opposed to bright colors that only work for some. Tenants who dislike the paint color or décor sometimes expect a complete makeover, even though repainting & redecorating between each tenant isn’t practical. Landlords get tired of hearing renters complain about aesthetics they can’t change on a whim.

“I Spotted a Bug!”

The sight of a single bug sends some tenants into a frenzy, even though the occasional insect is rather normal since they do live on the same planet as us. Landlords schedule regular pest control but they can’t prevent every tiny intruder—it’s frustrating when tenants expect a pest-free bubble. Unless it’s a major infestation, making panicked calls over a lone spider is utterly exhausting and pointless.

“These Appliances Are Ancient!”

Some tenants moan when their new home has appliances that aren’t the latest models—they might work perfectly fine but they’re not shiny & new. Landlords can’t justify replacing working appliances just to keep up with trends, which is why it’s so irritating when tenants complain about this. Everything works as it should and upgrading on demand simply isn’t feasible for most landlords.

“Can I Pay the Rent a Bit Late?”

Landlords rely on rent payments to cover their own expenses because it’s not just extra cash lying around, so constant late rent payments are a real issue. Sure, they might empathize with sudden issues that make payments late but making requests to do so is selfish. Nobody likes to chase down rent payments and landlords get fed up with the excuses piling up month after month—just sort it out.

“Locked Out… Again!”

We’ve all had those moments when we lose our keys, yet some tenants make a habit of losing their keys or locking themselves out and each time, they call the landlord to bail them out. It eats up time & costs money if they need to get a locksmith involved. Landlords grow tired of being on-call for preventable mishaps because rescuing forgetful tenants feels like a part-time job they didn’t sign up for.
