In 1925, British explorer Percy Fawcett, his son & a friend disappeared in the Amazon forest. They were looking for an ancient lost city he called “Z.” We’re not sure if they found the city or if they were swallowed by the jungle but either way, Fawcett’s disappearance fascinates us to this day. It’s one of the greatest exploration mysteries ever!
The Lighthouse Keepers of Eilean Mor

In 1900, three lighthouse keepers vanished from the remote Scottish island of Eilean Mor. Even though the lighthouse was in perfect order, the men were gone and some speculate they were swept away by a massive wave. But if that happened, where did all the water go? It’s a mystery that has puzzled people for over a century.
Michael Rockefeller’s Disappearance

In 1961, Michael Rockefeller (yes, one of those Rockefellers) vanished while on an expedition in New Guinea. He was last seen trying to swim to shore after his boat overturned. It’s possible that he made it and then got lost—or maybe that foul play was involved. His disappearance sparked a massive search but Michael was never found.
The Vanishing of Frederick Valentich

In 1978, pilot Frederick Valentich was flying over the Bass Strait in Australia when he reported seeing an unidentified flying object. His last words were, “It’s not an aircraft.” And then? Silence. No trace of Valentich or his plane was ever found which caused numerous UFOlogists to claim he had a close encounter of the third kind. However, official reports claim he became disoriented and crashed his plane.
