Become an Early Riser

People in their 60s are usually up with the sun and there’s a reason for that. Beyond merely old age, it’s because they believe in making the most of the day. Those quiet few hours each morning before the world wakes up give you time to exercise or read. You can even enjoy a cup of coffee in peace. Whatever you decide, giving yourself some time to enjoy the morning is more beneficial than you might realize.
Cherish Your Friends

As people get older, they focus on maintaining a few meaningful friendships rather than having a huge circle of acquaintances. There’s a lot to be said for having friends who really know you. Of course, that doesn’t mean you have to give up meeting new people—rather, you should invest time & effort into relationships that add value to your life. What’s the point in talking to people who don’t do that for you?

Find a Hobby You Love

Many 60-year-olds have hobbies that they’re passionate about, whether it’s gardening or painting. Whatever the hobby, these activities make them relaxed so they can deal with the stresses of life. And let’s not forget how it makes you more interesting at parties. Having a hobby gives you a break from the digital world and a real sense of accomplishment.
Quality Over Quantity

The mantra of “quality over quantity” goes for everything—clothes, gadgets, furniture, you name it. Older people value things that last over cheap, throwaway items. After all, it’s better for your wallet and also for the planet. Their mindset goes beyond material possessions to include experiences—investing in fewer, higher-quality activities makes you feel more fulfilled. You can’t put a price on that.
Invest in Comfy Shoes

While it might sound silly, as you get older you realize the value of comfortable footwear. Those in their 60s know this all too well! A good pair of shoes makes the difference between a good day and a bad one—especially if your job has you on your feet. The over-60s understand that taking care of your body has a big impact on your overall well-being. And it all starts with a few simple changes!
Simplify Your Life

Over time, many older adults learn to let go of the things that don’t really matter. They simplify their lives to feel less stressed and happier—they focus on what truly counts. This might mean decluttering your home or making time for your loved ones. Either way, simplifying creates space for what truly improves your life.
Learn to Cook One Signature Dish Really Well

People over 60 often have that one dish they’re famous for. It’s usually something they’ve perfected over the years—and it’s always a hit at gatherings. Why not start that tradition now? Pick a recipe you love, then learn to make it really well so you can impress your friends. Better yet, you’ll feel a sense of pride in what you can create.
Take Time to Unplug

Here’s something we’re all guilty of overlooking. In our 30s, we’re so connected all the time yet many 60-year-olds know the value of unplugging, of stepping away from the screens & enjoying the world around them. And they’re not wrong. Taking time to disconnect helps reduce your stress & improve sleep. It also makes us feel more present in our lives.
Volunteer Your Time

Many people over 60 are happy to volunteer. After all, it’s a way to give back & connect with others as you learn new skills. For those of us still understanding the busyness of our 30s, setting aside time to volunteer might seem like a tall order. But the truth is, even a few hours a month make a big difference. Being part of something bigger than ourselves feels great.
Keep a Journal

Lots of older adults swear by journaling. Beyond documenting daily events, it helps them reflect on experiences & emotions. They also write about their lessons learned. For us younger people, keeping a journal is a form of self-discovery that gives you a private space to express yourself. It’s also rewarding to look back & see how far we’ve come!
The Power of Saying No

Older people recognize that their time & energy are precious. They know they can’t do everything. As such, they’re not afraid to say no to things that don’t fit with their values or that they simply don’t have time for. Learning to say no is liberating for us too! There’s nothing wrong with only spending time on activities and with people that make your life better.
