If you’re an investor then you’ll probably have dreamt about golden opportunities that’ll make you rich overnight. Keep your money to yourself!

Pyramid Schemes

Pyramid schemes ask you to throw in some cash and then recruit others to do the same. But the catch is that the only way to make money is by getting more people on board—which eventually becomes impossible. You’re left recruiting other people and you’ve probably destroyed a lot of relationships on the way.

Ponzi Schemes

Ponzi schemes lure you in with the promise of big bucks for little to no risk, using the money from new investors to pay off the earlier ones. It works—until it suddenly doesn’t. When new victims are in short supply, the whole thing falls apart and this means that most people are out of pocket.

High-yield investment programs promise astronomical returns in the blink of an eye. They claim to have a secret formula for making big bucks which often involves forex or cryptocurrencies. Most of the time, though, they’re just glorified Ponzi schemes and the website disappears—so does your investment.

Binary Options Scams

Binary options might sound like legit trading but many platforms are focused more on taking your money than making you any. They’ll manipulate their software so you never win. If you do, good luck withdrawing your funds because there’s no way to do so! The SEC is on their case but they’re like weeds—pull one out and another pops up.

Pump and Dump Schemes

As part of a pump and dump scheme, someone will tell you they have a hot stock tip that’s sure to make you rich. You buy in, the stock soars—then crashes harder than a lead balloon. The scammers will sell their shares at the peak and leave everyone else with worthless paper. Then they move onto the next unlucky person!

Advance Fee Fraud

In the advance fee fraud, scammers promise you the investment opportunity of a lifetime. There’s just one catch—you need to pay some fees upfront. Maybe it’s for legal costs or taxes but either way, you pay with the expectation of getting riches. In the end, you’re met with silence. Your money’s gone and so are they.

Offshore Investment Scams

Offshore investing sounds fancy yet it’s a scammer’s playground. They promise tax breaks and unbelievable returns if you invest in foreign markets—however, it’s hard to check if these “opportunities” are real. By the time you realize it’s a scam, your money’s halfway around the world and you’ll never see it again.

Precious Metal Investment Scams

Gold & silver investments seem like a safe bet and especially when the economy’s not doing well. Scammers take advantage of this. They’ll sell investments in non-existent reserves or coins at inflated prices—they might even offer to store your precious metals in secure vaults. Sadly, none of these exist and you’ll probably just lose everything.

Real Estate Investment Seminars

Real estate investment seminars promise to teach you how to make a fortune in real estate with little effort. Yet the truth is that they’re often just sales pitches for expensive courses or investments in deals that aren’t what they’re cracked up to be. The only ones making money here are the people running the seminar!

Digital Currency Scams

Cryptocurrencies sure are popular but with all the hype comes a ton of scams. Fake ICOs, dodgy exchanges & phishing attacks are just the tip of the iceberg. It doesn’t matter how they do it—scammers will promise you huge returns on digital currencies that turn out to be worth nothing.

Investment Coaching Scams

For a hefty fee, investment “coaches” will teach you insider secrets to making a fortune in the stock market or real estate. What could be wrong with that? Well, their advice is generic or outdated at best—at worst, it’s downright useless. Real investment success takes time and won’t come from pricey seminars or coaching sessions.
