In the 15th century, the matchlock musket made warfare far more accessible for the common man. Forget about knights & swords—this gun replaced them with regular foot soldiers because it was easy to use and relatively cheap. As such, this changed who could fight wars and how they fought them. Even those who couldn’t afford armor now had some power.

The Wheellock Pistol

For many soldiers in the 16th century, having a gun that didn’t need a lit match to fire was unheard of. Enter the Wheellock pistol. One of the most important firearms for the American colonies was the flintlock rifle. This firearm was more accurate & faster to load than older guns, which made a huge difference in the New World.
