Skipping Breakfast

I was never a breakfast person. Just a cup of coffee and I was out the door. But after 60, that just didn’t cut it anymore — by mid-morning, I started feeling sluggish & unfocused. Now, I make sure to grab something nutritious to kickstart my metabolism and keep my energy levels steady throughout the day.
Avoiding Strength Training

Cardio has always been my favorite exercise and I once thought that it was enough. Well, not quite. Muscle mass declines as you age, so now I include strength training in my workouts. The changes have been great for my muscles & joints—I feel stronger in everything I do from day to day.

Staying Up Late

It doesn’t matter how old you are—we all love binge-watching shows until late into the night. But at 60, my sleep patterns said “no more.” Now, I stick to a regular bedtime and honestly, I wake up feeling refreshed & ready for the day. It’s amazing what a full night’s sleep can do for your mood and energy.
Holding on to Stress

It’s easy to let stress build up without trying to manage it but I refuse to do that anymore. I’ve started practicing yoga & meditation, which has made a huge difference. First, I feel more relaxed and my thoughts are clearer. I’m also able to handle those day-to-day challenges a lot better.
Having Meals Alone

Eating alone was standard for me, especially when I had a busy day. However, I’ve realized sharing meals can actually be quite fun because it’s a time to connect over some delicious food. Just making it a point to have meals with others has improved my social life. Something as simple as dinner has become far more meaningful for me.
Holding Onto Clutter

I used to keep everything because I thought I might need it someday. Well, turning 60 taught me the beauty of decluttering, as clearing out old stuff has cleared up my space and my mind. It’s also pretty refreshing to live in a more organized space. Best of all, I’m actually able to find things faster!
Sedentary Evenings

Instead of sitting through another TV marathon every night, I started taking after-dinner walks as it helps me stay active. It’s also a great way for my digestion and the fresh air before bedtime has really improved the quality of my sleep. I like to think of it as a simple switch that’s helped me quite a bit!
Eating Too Much Sugar

I loved my sweets and sugary treats but sadly, they didn’t love me back and that’s why I’ve drastically reduced my sugar intake. Doing so has stabilized my energy levels & helped me manage my waistline. Of course, it was tough at first—yet the benefits have been sweet enough.
Negative News

What’s wrong with starting your mornings with the news? It turns out quite a lot! Namely, I’d feel stressed as soon as I woke up, so I decided to quit this habit. Instead, I begin my day with something uplifting or motivational because it sets a positive tone for the day. It keeps me from getting bogged down by negativity.
Impulse Buying

Shopping for things I didn’t need was a habit I didn’t even notice—until I saw how cluttered my space had become. So I’ve started to think twice before buying anything! Being mindful of each purchase has helped me save money and also means that I only bring items into my home that serve a purpose.
