10 Behaviors That Make You A Boring Person To Be Around

Nobody wants to be the person that others avoid because they are boring or not interesting. But sometimes, without you knowing it, some of your habits can make others not want to be with you. The idea is not to be the loudest or most exciting person – but to be present, open & interesting. Even little adjustments to how you behave or talk will go a long way. Let’s take a look at 10 habits that are making you boring and how they affect how others see you.

Talking Only About Yourself

When you make it a point to talk always about you, the other people get bored easily. You can tell them your stories. But if you never ask someone about them, or even get curious about their life, it becomes one-sided. People love a conversation that goes both ways – so be open and listen to them instead of focusing on yourself.

Complaining All the Time

A room full of negative energy is always an energy drain. If you’re constantly complaining or pointing out things that don’t work without offering any solutions, people will not want to spend time with you. All of us have bad days, but we need to keep it in balance. You’ll also be more pleasant to hang out with when you show gratitude or notice good things.

Never Trying New Things

By doing things the same way, or not trying new things, interactions can become unpredictable and monotonous. If you’re not going to a new restaurant, trying an activity or an idea — then you’re not open to growing. It doesn’t have to be anything overwhelming — it can be as trivial as picking up a new hobby or having a new fun fact to say.

Interrupting or Not Listening

When you are constantly interrupting or don’t listen to people properly, it shows you don’t value what the other person has to say. Listening makes people feel heard, so if you interrupt or take yourself out of the conversation, it shows that you’re not interested. Great listeners always make for good companions.

Being Too Predictable

If everyone else can predict what you’ll say or do, then the interactions become stale. Predictability doesn’t always imply reliability – predictability lacks spontaneity or novelty. By occasionally surprising someone or embodying a change, relationships remain more interesting.

Judging Others Too Much

Being constantly critical of or judgmental of others creates tension. You leave other people on eggshells all around you. Try to motivate, or even praise, the good in people – rather than finding the faults. To be kind and understanding is more fun than to have harsh judgment

Lacking Passion

Without any interests, hobbies or passion for anything — conversations will become boring. People gravitate toward those who have enthusiasm – be it about a sport, a book or even about kitchen. Passionate people move discussion forward and a lack of passion makes things boring.

Avoiding Humor or Fun

If you don’t laugh, or take it all too seriously, you’ll come across as hard to approach. Humor cheers people up and connects them. You don’t have to be a comedian, but if you can make someone smile or laugh at something — then you will be more likeable.

Being Too Passive

If you always side with everyone and never have a personal voice, people will view you as inactive. When you bring your side of the issue — even if it is a different one — you are showing you are interested in the discussion. If you’re too passive, it can make communication look dull and boring.

Overusing Technology

If you’re constantly checking your phone or distracted by a screen during a conversation, other people will feel ignored. You cannot really connect to someone who’s not present. Put your phone away and focus on people who are around you – let them know that you value being with them.
