If you are right-brain dominant, you navigate using landmarks and a general feeling. You remember turning at the brightly colored café, passing an odd metal sculpture and walking towards a large glass skyscraper in the distance.
What happens when you listen to a podcast while doing chores?
If you’re left-brained, you can tune into an in-depth narrative or audio course while your hands mechanically go about their chores. You soak up every word spoken to you while folding towels or washing pots and pans.
If you’re right-brained, getting your hands involved often pulls your attention. What’s being said melts into ambient sound, and a single wandering thought can easily divert your attention, prompting you to replay sections again and again.
How do you build flat-pack furniture?
If you’re left-brain dominant, you empty all the screws onto your lap, count all the wooden pegs and read the first direction twice before you even touch a tool. Figuring it out on your own just seems like asking for a leaning tower of bookcase.
If you’re right-brain dominant, you stare at the picture on the box cover, then grab your tools and assemble what you think goes together based on how you think the finished product should look. You’ll flip to the instructions sheet only if you have random scraps at the end with no idea where they go.
How do you react when your plans get canceled at the last minute?
If you’re left-brained, for a millisecond you feel irritated that your carefully planned day is off schedule. You then reboot by mentally opening a new file and creating another solid plan to fill your unexpected free time.
If you’re right-brained, you instantly feel a rush of relief or calm thrill. Unscheduled free time is like a blank canvas. You easily get lost paging through ideas until you find something fun to do.
Where do you keep your important documents?
If you’re left-brained, everything is in folders, binders or files clearly labeled so if you’re looking for a receipt from two years ago, you can find it in five seconds flat.
If you’re right-brained, you remember where you put things. Well, sort of. Your filing system is anyone else’s idea of junk piled high, but you remember that the tax form you’re looking for is right at the center of that stack on your desk, buried under that green notebook.
What do you notice most when rewatching a movie?
If you’re left-brain dominant, you notice the plot, what is being said in the script and characters motivations. You love noticing foreshadowing hints in dialogue, catching small inconsistencies in the plot and seeing how everything wraps up at the end.
If you’re right-brain dominant, you become immersed in the overall feeling of the movie. You notice the music soundtrack, lighting of each scene and colors portrayed, and non-verbal expressions an actor makes to depict their emotions.
How do you like to learn a new game?
If you’re left-brained, you want someone to read the rules aloud or explain how scoring works before anyone plays. Understanding the boundaries and structure of turns allows you to understand what moves you can make in order to formulate a strategy.
If you’re right-brained, you dive right into a practice round and learn as you play. Hearing the rules out loud doesn’t really click until you’ve seen the game pieces in play.
