6 signs he’s attracted to you and 6 ways to build on it

Attraction isn’t always easy to identify, but you can often tell how a guy feels about you based on how he looks at you, talks to you, and makes time for you.

6 signs he’s attracted to you – The lingering glance

You catch him looking over at you from across the room, or holding eye contact seconds longer than normal. When you look over and catch him staring, he flashes you a smile or quickly looks away. Some people will maintain eye contact with everyone they talk to. So don’t take it as proof that he likes you if he only does this one. But if his gaze keeps returning to you when there are other people around, he may be into you.

More than small talk

He makes small talk about nothing, asks you questions, or starts texting you when he doesn’t have anything in particular to say. He remembers something you told him days ago and brings it up in conversation.

This happens with friendly people too, but if he continues to find reasons to talk and carries on conversations, he may just really enjoy your company.

Time well spent

Even though he’s busy, he wants to hang out with you. He asks if you want to grab coffee. He offers to run an errand with you or switch a plan so that you both are free. What’s important isn’t that he is free all the time, but that he tries and shows up. If a guy likes you, he will look for reasons to spend time together instead of chatting once in a while.

It’s the little things

He remembers your favorite beverage at work, that you have an interview next week, or the story you told him about your dog last month. You may be surprised when he asks how it went because you didn’t even think you mentioned it to him.

A playful connection

He teases you, makes goofy comments, or you have knock-knock jokes only you two know. He looks happy or satisfied after he’s made you laugh. If he lets his guard down and shows you his goofy side, it can help you two feel closer.

Conversations may even feel more personal. Just pay attention to how he jokes around with you. If the jokes make you feel embarrassed or bad about yourself, it isn’t meant to bring you closer.

Beyond the surface

Instead of talking about work, school, or the weather, he asks you about your hobbies, goals, and what you think about certain things. He listens when you speak and tells you about himself in return. You may even notice that your conversations start to last longer than they used to.

6 ways to build on it – A little encouragement

If he makes you feel special, let him know you like him too. Don’t play hard to get by waiting for him to call you all the time. Give him a smile when you see him, talk to him, or send a text every once in a while. Small gestures like this can encourage a person who’s unsure if your feelings are mutual.

Getting to know each other

Ask him questions that show you care about him as a person. Inquire about his hobbies, weekend plans, or favorite things. Share your own experiences and opinions rather than interrogating him. The more common interests you have, the more reasons you’ll have to spend time with each other.

Taking the initiative

You don’t have to sit around and wait for him to ask you to hang out all the time. If you’ve been talking and enjoying each other’s company, make plans to grab coffee, check out a local event, or try a restaurant you both talked about. Make your ask low pressure and allow him the space to say no.

No need to pretend

While it can be easy to agree with everything someone says when you’re trying to win them over, lying about your interests or opinions will only cause issues down the road. Share what you love, speak up about your opinions (always nice and respectful, though), and don’t be afraid to let your little quirks show.

A two-way street

If you find that you are always the one initiating conversations and making plans, allow him the opportunity to step up and show you what he wants. Relationships where both parties put forth effort are much easier to maintain attraction in. You shouldn’t have to chase someone or read into every late response as if it were a cryptic puzzle.

Taking the guesswork out

Tell him you’ve had fun getting to know each other or ask him if he’d like to go on a date. Jumping into a declaration of love isn’t necessary; just ask if he’d like to see you again. He’ll give you a much better answer than you’d think, and you’ll avoid questioning every gaze or text.
