14 things women find unattractive in men over 50

Despite what you might’ve heard, getting older isn’t actually a huge deal for many women, but they’re usually turned off by the guys who declare war on aging or completely surrender to it.

Looking good for your age is one thing. Looking like you’ve borrowed clothes from a 24-year-old is something completely different. You know the style, it’s the one with very skinny jeans and nightclub shirts, along with haircuts that need three products.

Women don’t think it looks youthful. No, they tend to view them as being forced, and a lot of women want to date grown men who actually look like grown men. It’s okay to look current. You don’t want to look like you’re terrified of your birth year, that’s all.

Women aren’t expecting guys over 50 to move like they’re twenty years younger. But they know there’s a big gap between slowing down and acting like you’ll never move again. They’re not into men who seem to think one flight of stairs is too much for their aging body.

It makes a guy seem way older than he actually is. Most women actually read that sort of behavior as a preview of the lifestyle they’d be signing up for. Older guys don’t need a six-pack or anything. They just can’t be afraid to move.

The daily medical bulletin

Aches happen when you get older, and that’s to be expected. The unattractive part is when every conversation somehow circles back to blood pressure and digestion. Every discussion has to be about stiff body parts and about what the podiatrist said. Women don’t like that.

They want to go on dates, after all, and not be left sitting beside someone in a clinic waiting room. It’s perfectly fine to have age-related issues, but you want to avoid narrating them every second of every day. Talk about what matters, then move on. Simple as that.

The architectural hairdo

A lot of comb-overs look terrible on older guys. They think they’re hiding their bald spots and taking attention away from any signs of aging, but in reality, this hairstyle draws more attention to thinning hair. Many women really don’t care whether a man is bald or getting there.

They care more about guys who look like they’re fighting their natural hairstyle every morning. You’re better off going for a shorter cut because it looks cleaner and more confident. You could try shaving it, too. That works.

The forgotten patch

That’s not all for hair. You can’t usually see the back of your own head, and that’s why it’s so easy to miss certain bald spots. The front looks fine in the mirror, and you trim the sides. But it’s the ignored patch on the crown that stands out, as it has hair growing in different directions.

Uneven thinning makes you look a lot more unattractive than any baldness could. It only gets worse when you’ve groomed the rest pretty well. But it doesn’t have to be that way, so try asking a barber what’s happening back there and keep the cut shorter. Try using a second mirror, as well.

The collar has company

Neck hair has a way of growing seemingly out of nowhere. It’s nowhere in sight one day, then the next, several wiry hairs start curling over the back of the collar. You should really keep an eye on them when you get older.

These hairs make even the most decent haircut look unfinished, and coarse hair around the neck and ears becomes more noticeable with age. Women aren’t necessarily looking out for that hair. But once they’ve seen it, well, they’ve seen it. Get a barber to clean the neckline for you.

The twenty-something scoreboard

We all know that kind of older guy. It’s the one who keeps bringing up younger women as proof that he’s ‘still got it,’ and he’ll talk about how the waitress twenty years younger smiled at him. He’ll mention how a 25-year-old matched with him on a dating app.

These kinds of stories sure are exhausting for women of any age to hear, and they make a guy sound pathetic. It’s perfectly fine for you to date younger, within reason, but you don’t need everybody to know you could.

The permanent bachelor setup

It’s rough when you’re newly divorced, and you might let yourself go a bit. Women understand that. They’re not judging guys for it. But what they are judging them for is acting as though the 10-year-old divorce is still breaking news. It’s no excuse to continue being a slob.

Women over 50 often already have functioning homes and functioning routines, so they’re not interested in guys still living like a bachelor at 52. They’re not excited by the idea of becoming someone’s maid.

Everything new is apparently ridiculous

A single complaint about new things is absolutely fine because we all have them. But it becomes an issue when a guy can’t stop sharing them. He apparently can’t download another app and doesn’t understand why nobody uses cash. It gets boring after a while.

The truth is, women aren’t attracted to guys who refuse to accept new things. They’re not going to be into guys who are too afraid to try restaurants or use new technology. You have to stay curious to look attractive, it’s really not that difficult.

Every story starts with his age

Some men reach 50 and start every sentence with a disclaimer about their age. They make their age the center of practically every conversation, and it gets repetitive way too quickly. Newsflash, women dating in the same age range already know how old everyone is.

Nobody forgot, and nobody’s trying to. Making age the main topic makes normal things sound like they’re impossible, even though they’re really not. You’re not a museum exhibit. So why are you behaving like one?

The calendar suddenly ends

You could try asking some guys what they want to do next year. They’ll shrug. They have no plans and no goals because, apparently, they’re too late now. That sort of behavior is an immediate turn-off.

Many women over 50 still have plenty they want to do, and they’re looking for a partner who feels the same way. They don’t want a guy who’s mentally closed up shop. You don’t need huge plans or anything, but you do need to have something ahead of you.

Folding inward

It really doesn’t matter how in shape a guy might be because he might still look ten years older. It’s all because of how he carries himself. Guys who move around with their shoulders rolled forward and heads poking out don’t look good. Nor do guys with a curved back.

Women are going to notice that bad posture immediately because it changes everything about him. Stand up straight. Walking more and stretching help, too, as they’ll help you keep strength in your back and core.

Hands that missed the moisturizer memo

Hands. They say a lot about how well someone takes care of themselves, and women really do notice when a guy has cracked knuckles or peeling skin. Rough fingertips are a turn-off, too, and so are dry cuticles.

A bit of roughness is okay, of course, especially for a guy who works with his hands. The problem comes when a guy’s hands look painfully dry and decades older than the rest of him. It reads as neglect. There’s an easy solution, though, and it’s hand cream.

The shuffle arrives early

The way a guy walks says a lot about him, and a guy with a stiff walk is practically screaming. He takes short little steps and has hardly any swing in their arms. Women know that health conditions can affect how someone walks, obviously. That’s a separate issue.

But years of barely moving make a healthy man look way too stiff, and women see the whole person when he walks into a room. Go for regular walks and do some leg work if you’re worried about your stance. Even standing up more often is a good start.
