Your 20s are a strange time. You’re exploring life, but still get swept up in peer pressure and the fear of missing out. You also act cool or put-together when you really don’t feel either of those things. So here are 11 things women look back on and say, “I made it seem like I loved that when I really didn’t.”

1. Going out clubbing every weekend

Going out used to seem cool; getting dolled up, going to a bar with friends, and dancing until 3 a.m. But then the loud music, annoying lines, and aching feet wore them down. Half the time, they wished they were back in bed but kept going to be a part of the group.
2. Toxic relationships

It was dubbed passion, chemistry, or “complicated love.” But really, it was just emotional drama and heartache. Many women endured it for much longer than they should’ve just because it felt like failure to leave.
3. Going on extreme diets

They followed juice cleanses, “no carb” crazes, or whatever trend was being shoved down their throats. But most of those diets left them tired, moody, and dreaming of pizza. Spoiler alert: it’s way better to have balance than to starve.
4. Pretending to like sports (or pretending to care)

Whether they made some guy in their life happy or wanted to fit in with a new group of friends, they played along as if they loved sports. They usually had no idea what was going on and would rather have been binge-watching TV.
5. Overachieving to please others

Working late, volunteering for more tasks, or going out of their way just to seem “perfect” or someone others wanted to be around. It was tiring, and the praise they got for it usually didn’t feel worth it.
6. Wearing painful heels

Heels might look amazing in pics. But after a few hours of wobbling, sore feet, and desperately hunting for a place to sit, most women wish they’d just worn comfy sneakers instead.
7. Pretending to love their job

They used to put on a smile, show up every day, and tell themselves it was just what adults do. But deep down, they were bored, drained, and watching the clock. They were just waiting for lunch or the weekend to escape.
8. Long, complicated skincare routines

Back then, they felt like they had to follow those 10-step routines with pricey products. But honestly? Most nights, they were too tired to keep up or forgot half the steps anyway. These days, just washing their face and slapping on some moisturizer feels like a win.
9. Going to over-the-top festivals

It all looked so fun on Instagram. But in reality? It was hours of sweating, standing in long lines for overpriced drinks and trying not to gag in porta-potties. The photos were great, but the actual experience was overrated.
10. Keeping up with every fashion trend

They used to grab whatever was trending just to fit in, even if it didn’t feel like them or was super uncomfortable. Now, they stick to what actually feels good and matches their own style, not what’s all over social media.
11. Dating just for the sake of it

They went on dates they didn’t want, swiped for hours on apps, and forced small talk for hours. Why? They felt like they were supposed to be dating. But playing the “dating game” was not worth their energy.
