10 things women want to hear on the first date

Here are 10 things women say they like hearing on a first date to feel heard and understood.

Appreciation

“I’m really glad I met you.”

It sounds simple and basic, but hearing that on the first date can really set the tone. It instantly reminds her you didn’t just agree to go out with her because you’re bored or feel obliged to. You wanted to meet her.

First dates can feel forced and unnatural at the beginning, so helping her relax by letting her know you’re happy she’s there is perfect. It shows warmth, respect, and interest.

Compliment

“You look really nice.”

Who doesn’t like hearing that they look nice? It doesn’t have to be over the top or borderline romantic. Simply acknowledging that she made an effort means a lot.

Tell her you like her dress, her hair, her eyes, or even the smile on her face. Whatever you choose, let her know you noticed her, and she’ll feel comfortable and ease into just being herself.

Interest

“Tell me more.”

This will go a long way on your date. Most guys will monopolize the conversation by talking about themselves. You, on the other hand, want her to know you’re interested in who she is.

By asking her to elaborate on certain things, you’re creating an organic and natural conversation. You’re showing interest in what she has to say.

Engagement

“That’s interesting.”

You don’t have to know about everything she talks about. What’s important is that you show interest in what she likes. It lets her know you care about her opinion and what she has to say.

It also keeps the conversation going when you may not know what to say. Girls love it when you let them be themselves.

Patience

“Take your time.”

First dates can be extremely nerve-racking, even if she doesn’t let on. Letting her know you’re chill and patient with everything will show her you’re low-maintenance and level-headed.

You’re telling her she doesn’t have to try and rush, try and impress you with her stories, or stress about saying the right thing. Girls appreciate that type of energy.

Mindset

“I like how you think.”

Guys tend to only pay attention to girls physically. You listening to her speak and picking up on her way of thinking shows you’re taking mental notes when you’re talking to her.

Giving her that compliment will make her feel like you truly care about every aspect of who she is.

Comfort

“Whatever you’re comfortable with.”

This is another one of those lines that shows respect in the most subtle ways, whether you’re talking about food, where you want to go next or even how long you should stay.

Giving her the option to choose what she’s comfortable with at any point during the night lets her know you have no intention of forcing her to do anything she doesn’t want to. That’s respectful and flies down smooth.

Humor

“You’re funny.”

Did she tell a joke that had you laughing? Great, tell her. This is one of the easiest ways to make a girl feel good about herself. Laughing releases endorphins that will not only make her feel great, but you as well. Two people laughing at each other is natural chemistry.

Enjoyment

“I had a great time.”

You would think this line would be common sense, but you’d be surprised how many people don’t say this. At the end of the night, once you both finish your meals and your conversation, she will be sitting there trying to guess if you had a good time.

Why leave her in suspense? Tell her you had a great time with her. It’s magical what that little sentence can do.

Intent

“I’d like to see you again.”

If you genuinely feel it, say it clearly. It shows confidence and honesty, which are both attractive qualities.

You’re also keeping it simple by not sending mixed signals or playing head games. Great dates equal great follow-ups.
