10 adorable signs you’re on their mind

The most revealing signs that someone is thinking about you are often the ones they aren’t deliberately trying to show.

There’s one waiting for you

They pick up your favorite treat at the grocery store. Or they save the last bite of something because they know you love it. You weren’t around when that choice was made, and that’s what makes it special. They thought of you, knowing you’d eat it later. It’s a small gesture of affection that occurs when you’re absent.

The souvenir makes no sense

They’ve come back from somewhere with something insignificant and oddly specific instead of something grand. Perhaps it’s an absurd postcard, novelty candy, or something relating to an inside joke from ages ago. Price does not matter. What matters is that while they were there experiencing something completely new, they thought of you.

They saw it coming

They grab you a blanket before you even ask because they know you’ll get chilly. They ask for extra sauce because they know you’ll want it, or sit you in a seat because they know you’ll like it. It’s not grand or over the top; these are little predictions they make just by knowing you. They’ve considered your likes enough to foresee them.

Something quietly changes

Perhaps they begin stocking your favorite tea at home or add that song you love to their playlist. There will be no grand pronouncement, nor will they necessarily expect you to notice. Their daily landscape has just subtly begun to include you more. This is what typically occurs when someone thinks about you in between visits.

They bring you up by accident

They’re not intentionally relaying a narrative about you, but your name keeps coming up in odd conversations. Talking about restaurants brings something you ordered to mind; holidays remind them of your story; someone has a dog they think you’ll like. One thing keeps leading back to you. Occasionally other people recognize the pattern before they do.

The camera comes out

They are somewhere beautiful or unusual, and one of the first things they think to do is take a picture for you. They are not necessarily going to post it or send it to everybody. They uniquely think of you to see it. While they are living a moment without you, a part of them is still with you.

Your day has a bookmark

They remember that today is the day of the interview, your mom’s birthday, the dreaded appointment, or the day your favorite show comes back on. These aren’t dates that you normally put on a calendar because they are significant. They just happened to stick because they were important to you.

When someone remembers what’s going on in your world without you reminding them, they have obviously been bottling up a little piece of you.

The seat beside them stays open

They reserve a seat for you at the party before you arrive, or glance at the door when they think you’re on your way over. When taking you into a packed room, they’re already considering where you will squeeze into it.

They might even scoot over to make room for you when you walk through the door, wordlessly. Sometimes someone waiting for you can be one of the sweetest anticipations.

You become the reference point

They try a dessert and wonder if you would enjoy it. Listen to an opinion and imagine your response. Meet someone and know you would think they’re hilarious.

You are not just occasionally remembered; you’ve become a subconscious benchmark for new experiences. The brain continually cross-references aspects of the world with its understanding of you.

They almost forget you’re not there

They pause to say something to you only to remember you’re in another room, another state, or that you’re not around that day at all. Perhaps they even accidentally say your name or start to mentally say something that you would have found funny.

It isn’t a pre-planned action. It just happens. And that’s the sweet part. You’re that established in their mind that they physically look forward to you being there for a split second.
