Personal Problems
Always keep personal issues out of work. Sharing too much about your personal life with your manager can mix up your work and personal worlds. This may prove to be an awkward and uncomfortable scenario. Only address Non-personal issues publicly. Talk to friends or family who can offer support. Keep your focus on work when you’re in the office.
Complaints About Colleagues
Bringing up complaints about your coworkers with your manager can create problems. It can make you seem like you’re stirring up trouble. This can also affect how others view you. If you have issues with a colleague, try to solve them directly with that person. You can also get help from HR, who can offer mediation.
Plans to Leave the Job
If you’re thinking about leaving the job, stay quiet until you’re ready to resign. If your manager hears you talking about plans to leave early it can also affect the way they see you. You may experience a difference in the way that they work with you, or even how they treat you.
Dislikes About the Company
Bi**hing about the policies or management of the company makes you look bad. It can also make others feel uncomfortable. Instead of complaining, give feedback. If some of these things are not for your liking, then write them down formally or take it up with HR to see how you can work through solutions.
Complaining To Managers
Sharing frustration or dissatisfaction about your job with your manager can also make you look bad. Focus on solutions instead of just pointing out problems. Discuss your problems with your manager in a constructive way. This approach shows that you want to improve things rather than just complain.
Inappropriate Jokes or Comments
Keep your conversations with your manager professional. Making inappropriate jokes or comments can make you look stupid and unprofessional. It can ruin your relationship with your manager and make others uncomfortable. Keep the conversation about work-related subjects and always be respectful when interacting.
Overly Ambitious Career Goals
Career goals are good, but sharing too much may give off the impression that you are overly ambitious about getting ahead. That can also make you appear eager (ever heard that being too ambitious is actually a flaw?). When discussing your career development, keep your current role in mind. Show that you are committed to the role, but also have your future in mind.
