9 Ways Climate Change Will Impact Your Daily Life in the Next Decade

Changing climatic conditions are a result of harmful human activities towards the environment. Global temperatures are rising day by day. We are receiving heavy rains out of season and many farmers are struggling with horrific dry conditions. These changing weather patterns have affected our food production, water supply, people’s health, habitats, etc.

As humans continue with rapid production and development, we are ignoring the long-term effects of climate change on Earth. Consequently, we are going to face worse conditions in the future. In this list, we look at 10 ways how climate change is going to affect human life in the next 10 years.

Increased Heat Waves

As global temperatures rise, it can cause heat waves, forest fires and smog over specific regions for a couple of days, weeks, or months. Bearing the heat can be difficult for vulnerable elders, young children, and people with health conditions like heart problems and respiratory diseases. Heat strokes and dehydration can also become serious issues.

Food Insecurity

Higher global temperatures and unpredictable weather affects food production badly — some areas are getting heavy rainfall leading to floods, while some people living in other parts of the Earth suffer from long-lasting droughts. These extreme weather conditions may affect harvests in many ways — crops ready for harvest can get destroyed by rain, or early cold weather can force farmers to harvest premature crops. Certain areas may not be able to grow the crops that have traditionally grown there and other areas may be affected by a growing pest problem. As a result, people may have to rely on lab grown meats and genetically modified food.

Rising Sea Levels

Global temperatures cause the glaciers in the Arctic and Antarctic circles to melt – water levels in coastal areas are rising day by day. As a result, people living in small islands and coastal areas are expected to lose their habitats in the near future.

Water Scarcity

When the rain cycle becomes unbalanced, Earth won’t receive enough rainfall on time. Dry conditions can lead to a shortage of freshwater and many people across the world will find it difficult to fulfill their drinking water needs. People will lack water for agricultural and industrial purposes as well.

Health Risks

Rising temperature can increase the breeding of disease-causing insects such as mosquitoes and flies. The rise in pollination activities may lead to more pollen in the air. This can result in allergies like itchy eyes and skin, sneezing  and breathing problems.

Economic Consequences

Climate changes can affect industries like agriculture and fisheries badly – causing many to lose jobs. Insurance costs will also go up as more properties get affected by natural disasters, making it hard for people to obtain insurance coverage.

Disruption of Transportation

Heavy rains, storms & floods can damage roads, bridges, other infrastructure — causing problems in travel and transportation. This will lead to many issues like late deliveries, delays of flights and damage to overall economic output of a country.

Changes in Outdoor Activities

Outdoor activities like hiking, camping, fishing and sports will all be affected by climate changes. Heavy rains or high temperatures will limit your freedom to spend time in nature — these activities are essential for our physical, mental and social well-being.

Shifts in Community Dynamics

Rising sea levels, floods and landslides may cause locals to migrate to safer areas and those areas will get overcrowded. Consequently, tensions over resources will arise. Plus, support systems will be formed within the communities to assist these environmental refugees in order to bring their lives back to normal.
