America’s still the land of opportunity — if you’re a billionaire. In 2025, that hasn’t changed in the slightest. Dollars have poured in from every corner of the economy: Silicon Valley, retail moguls, Wall Street royalty. You know a lot of these faces. Others stay under the radar. But all of them have an empire.

Here are 18 of the richest people in the United States today, as per Forbes’ annual list of the obscenely rich.

Elon Musk – Texas

Yep, he’s got $424.7 billion. Elon Musk still runs Tesla and SpaceX and launches rockets into orbit. He packed up and moved to Texas a few years back, chasing lower costs and easier business rules. Love him or hate him, the guy’s always in the mix.

Facebook (Meta) founder Mark Zuckerberg is worth about $258.7 billion. He’s based in California. He’s been pouring money into virtual and augmented reality technologies for his vision of a “metaverse.” Since Meta owns both Instagram and WhatsApp, it reaches a huge share of online users.

$289.3 billion and living on a Hawaiian island, not bad, right? Ellison co-founded Oracle, the software behemoth that provides business software to organizations worldwide. Present day: He owns most of Lanai, an island in Hawaii, and seems perfectly content to island hop away from the Silicon Valley hustle.

Jeff Bezos – Washington

Bezos founded Amazon and oversaw its domination of just about everything. He’s worth about $228.9 billion. Bezos spends more time on his space company, Blue Origin, and divides his living between Florida and Texas. That said, Washington is where the Amazon story began.

Warren Buffett – Nebraska

Here’s a twist: one of the richest guys in the world still lives in a regular house in Omaha. Warren Buffett is at $141.8 billion, most of it made through investing with Berkshire Hathaway.

Bill Gates: Is the name familiar? Probably. Microsoft founder Bill Gates helped put computers in nearly every household. These days he no longer runs the multi-billion-dollar software empire he created. Instead he is working with his foundation to combat global problems. Gates’ net worth is roughly $115.5 billion and he still lives in Washington.
