If the idea of changing things for the sake of change makes you want to crawl under a blanket, you might be conservative. This group values keeping things steady & predictable so they’re not huge fans of fixing what isn’t broken. Instead, they prefer the comfort of the familiar. Why? Because they appreciate the peace of mind that comes with stability.

A big part of conservative thinking is the belief in personal responsibility, like thinking that if people just worked harder, they’d get ahead. Conservatives believe that success comes from individual effort. They think that everyone should take care of themselves without expecting too much help from the government.

Another conservative hallmark is fearing an overly powerful government. They’re wary of too much government control and they prefer to keep things more in the immediate area & less intrusive. Conservatives believe that the best solutions come from your local community. The idea here is that local people know what’s best for them and can handle their own issues without the feds stepping in. Essentially, they value having trust in the community. They’re rather skeptical of supporting a “one-size-fits-all’ solution.

Those who have a strong respect for law enforcement & the judicial system are often conservative. They believe in maintaining order through strict obedience to laws and supporting those who enforce them. While some see this as authoritarian, it actually comes from their belief that safety and security are at the center of a free society.

While some people are quick to jump on every bandwagon, the majority of conservatives approach social changes with caution. They prefer gradual, considered changes to radical shifts. In their opinion, society works best when we thoughtfully implement changes so that we can preserve what works while cautiously improving what doesn’t.

Does the idea of parents being able to choose where their kids go to school make total sense to you? That’s a conservative education policy. They believe that competition can create better schools & parents should have the freedom to choose what’s best for their children. It doesn’t matter if it’s public, private or charter—they should be able to choose.
