Twins Separated at Birth with Parallel Lives

In Ohio, two identical twin boys were separated at birth & adopted by different families who didn’t know about each other. Both families named the boys James and, as adults, they both married women named Linda. After divorcing, each remarried women named Betty. Both had sons—one named James Alan, the other James Allan—and even more bizarrely, they both had pet dogs named Toy & worked in security!
Brothers Killed by the Same Taxi a Year Apart

In 1975, a man in Bermuda was riding his moped when he was struck & killed by a taxi. That’s tragic enough. But exactly one year later, his brother was riding the same moped on the same street—he, too, was hit and killed by a taxi. To make matters scarier, it was the same taxi driven by the same driver. The taxi even had the same number of passengers as the year before.

First and Last Soldiers of WWI Buried Together

Over in a small military cemetery near Mons, Belgium, you’ll find the graves of the first & last British soldiers killed in World War I—just six feet apart. The first soldier, Private John Parr, died on August 21, 1914, and the last, Private George Edwin Ellison, was killed on November 11, 1918. It was a mere 90 minutes before the armistice took effect. However, the fact they were buried so close together was a complete coincidence.
Violet Jessop Survived Three Ship Disasters

Violet Jessop is called the “Queen of Shipwrecks” and for a good reason! She survived disasters on all three sister ships—the RMS Olympic, the RMS Titanic & the HMHS Britannic. In 1911, she was on the Olympic when it collided with the HMS Hawke, then a year later, she survived the infamous sinking of the Titanic. In 1916, while serving as a nurse in World War I, she escaped the Britannic after it hit a mine & sank in the Aegean Sea.
Anthony Hopkins and the Rare Book

In the 1970s, actor Anthony Hopkins was cast in a film adaptation of The Girl from Petrovka by George Feifer. Like any good actor, he wanted to check the source material first but couldn’t find a copy in any London bookstores. He eventually spotted a copy lying abandoned on a bench in the subway. Later, when he met Feifer during filming, Feifer mentioned he’d lost his own copy, filled with notes, after lending it to a friend—it turned out to be Feifer’s own annotated copy.
Civil War Beginning and Ending at Wilmer McLean’s Homes

Wilmer McLean was a farmer whose property in Manassas, Virginia, was near the First Battle of Bull Run in 1861—the Civil War’s first major battle. To escape the war, he moved his family to the quiet village of Appomattox Court House. But fate had other ideas. In 1865, General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant in McLean’s new home, which led McLean to say, “The war began in my front yard and ended in my parlor.”
Jefferson and Adams Dying on July 4th

Thomas Jefferson & John Adams were both important figures in the American Revolution and they died on the same day—July 4th, 1826. But that date wasn’t just any day. It was the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and both presidents had a huge hand in creating that document. Just what are the chances of something like this happening?!
Mark Twain’s Life and Halley’s Comet

The famous American author Mark Twain was born on November 30, 1835. That same year, Halley’s Comet made one of its rare appearances in the sky & Twain once said that since he came in with the comet, he’d go out with it too. He wasn’t wrong—he passed away on April 21, 1910. It was just as Halley’s Comet was making its next pass by Earth which proves that the pair really were connected.
The Titanic’s Literary Foreshadowing

In 1898, writer Morgan Robertson wrote a novella called Futility that told the story of an enormous ocean liner named the Titan. In the book, people think the Titan is ‘unsinkable’ before it meets disaster & strikes an iceberg in the North Atlantic. The boat sinks and many people die due to an insufficient number of lifeboats. Sound familiar? It’s almost exactly what happened in real life to the RMS Titanic 14 years later!
Edgar Allan Poe’s Shipwreck Story Turned Reality

Speaking of fortune-telling books, in 1838, Edgar Allan Poe published his only complete novel, The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket. The story includes a disturbing moment where shipwrecked sailors decide to kill & eat a cabin boy named Richard Parker as they have no food left. Just 46 years later, the yacht Mignonette sank & similar events played out. However, the scariest part has to be the real cabin boy’s name—Richard Parker.
Lincoln and Kennedy’s Strange Parallels

Abraham Lincoln became president in 1860, while John F. Kennedy was elected exactly 100 years later, in 1960. What’s weird is that both were tragically assassinated on a Friday & Lincoln was succeeded by Andrew Johnson. Kennedy was succeeded by Lyndon B. Johnson—both vice presidents with the last name Johnson. It gets even creepier when you realize that both Johnsons were Southern Democrats who had served in the Senate.
Hoover Dam’s First and Last Fatalities Were Father and Son

During the building of the Hoover Dam, the first person to die was a surveyor named J.G. Tierney, who drowned on December 20, 1922. Sadly, exactly 13 years later, his son, Patrick Tierney, fell to his death on December 20, 1935. Both father and son became the first & last deaths associated with the dam’s construction.
A Falling Baby Saved Twice by the Same Man

A Detroit man named Joseph Figlock was walking down the street when a baby fell from a high window—and landed right on him. While both were injured, they both survived. A year later, unbelievably, the same baby fell from the same window onto Joseph again as he passed by! They also made it through with minor injuries.
