Dishwashers

Dishwashers were once luxury items most people couldn’t afford for their small homes and apartments. Washing dishes by hand was an extremely tiresome task. Dishwashers have become a standard feature in most homes today – most would panic at the thought of going back to hand dishwashing.
High-Speed Internet

Do you remember the days of dial-up internet? The annoying screech, slow connection speeds and endless buffering? It was honestly a struggle to connect to the internet. However, now with fiber optic technology and 5G networks we can download movies, stream shows and play online games at lightning speeds. We don’t realize how important it is until we see how fast things would slow down without it.
Air Conditioning

Back then, air conditioning systems were exclusive amenities only available in upscale hotels and business offices. Having air conditioning in your home meant you were rich or important. Air conditioning systems are now standard in all homes and vehicles but we rarely appreciate their value – until they stop working during a heatwave.
Personal Computers

When personal computers first came out, they were a huge deal. Businesses, schools and a few tech enthusiasts were the only ones who had personal computers after their release. But almost everyone has access to a laptop, desktop computer or tablet device now. We rely on them for work, school – and even entertainment.
Electric Cars

Electric cars used to feel like science fiction fantasies. And until recently, they were exclusive to a small group of wealthy people. Electric vehicles are now increasingly common on roads – Tesla and affordable electric vehicle manufacturers have made them accessible. Plus there are many charging stations coming up.
Microwaves

The ability to heat food rapidly in microwave ovens was once a luxury that only well-to-do people could enjoy. Microwaves have now become a common feature in most kitchens and we find it hard to imagine life without it —whether it’s for reheating leftovers or making popcorn.
Smartphones

Smartphones started as exclusive status symbols only wealthy or tech-savvy people could afford. But now? they’ve become a necessity. We use smartphones for all our daily tasks – texting, emailing, browsing the web, navigation, banking transactions and even taking photos. Honestly, life feels strange without one, doesn’t it?
Streaming Services

Before streaming services became popular, we watched TV by buying DVDs or VHS tapes or watching programs through cable TV. Through subscription-based platforms like Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+, we now enjoy immediate access to all our media favorites. Now we can finish an entire season over a weekend without having to wait for TV schedules.
Hotels

Hotel accommodations used to be exclusive privileges only the extremely rich could enjoy. But now online booking platforms & many affordable choices allow people to enjoy nice hotel stays at reasonable rates. We can find a comfortable hotel room wherever we travel without spending too much money – whether it’s for a weekend holiday or a business meeting.
GPS Navigation

A few decades ago, the thought of step by step directions on the go was a dream. When they first came out, GPS units weren’t cheap to buy. Only a few had access to them. Most people relied on paper maps or asking directions from strangers to find their way. Drivers needed to plan their routes in advance and relied on luck to avoid getting lost at intersections. Today we use our smartphones to access GPS systems, which provide live turn-by-turn navigation. In fact, travelling without GPS technology today seems impossible, especially when we’re in unknown locations.
Automatic Cars

Automatic transmissions used to be a luxury—only a few cars had them. These cars were pricier than manual ones. But automatic transmissions have become a standard feature in modern vehicles and very few people consider driving a manual transmission car these days. It’s just one less thing to worry about when driving.
