Careers That Ruin Marriages: 11 Jobs with the Highest Divorce Rates

Unfortunately, some jobs are a lot harder on marriages than others, whether it’s because of long hours or stress. This can seriously mess with your home life! Let’s look at the top jobs that, according to statistics, are tough on those wedding vows. Whether it’s because of late-night shifts or constant traveling, these jobs are a real challenge to families.

Rolling Machine Setters, Operators, and Tenders

Rolling machine setters have to deal with a lot of heavy machinery, turning materials into parts for practically everything. It’s physically demanding & time-consuming and involves long shifts or even mandatory overtime. This leaves little time for family activities or simply unwinding together, which drives a wedge in relationships.

You’d think that a switchboard operator would be a thing of the past, but apparently not. Handling a switchboard involves lots of calls and it’s a job that requires focus & a cool head—two things that might be hard to maintain after a long day of back-to-back calls. Odd working hours also keep these people away from family dinners and bedtime stories. Soon enough, it’s difficult to have a normal family life.

Bartenders are night owls and they have to mix drinks while talking to patrons well into the early hours. This kind of schedule isn’t exactly conducive to a typical family routine. Anyone working a nine-to-five will struggle to find time to socialize with their bartending partner and it’s easy to start feeling jealous of the customers. After all, they get to have conversations with your loved one while you don’t!

Gaming Managers

While running a casino floor sounds exciting, gaming managers usually work when everyone else is out playing. This includes nights & weekends, as well as every holiday you can think of. They have less time for family dinners or even weekend getaways with their spouse, so it becomes difficult to keep their marriage alive. They’re always on the clock during those prime family hours!

Flight attendants are always on the go and they often miss out on time at home. Worst of all, their schedules are usually unpredictable and spending nights in different time zones disrupts their sleep as much as their marriage. Constantly spending time away from home can strain even the strongest of relationships.

Textile Knitting and Weaving Machine Operators

Textile operators work long hours to produce the fabrics we all use and this job requires a lot of attention to detail. You also have to stand or sit for long periods, which can be exhausting. These issues make it difficult to plan family activities or just have some downtime with a spouse. Over time, married life becomes a lot tougher.

Telemarketers

Despite what you might think, telemarketers have it hard—long hours of talking and constant rejection from people on the other end of the line. This stress comes home, especially when they have to meet targets and the pressure starts mounting. Telemarketers can’t switch off at home and may start taking out their frustration on loved ones. That’s never good.

Massage Therapists

You’d think that being a massage therapist would involve chilling out. Sadly not. The truth is, they often have to work evenings and weekends because that’s when clients are free to come in. After a day of back-to-back sessions, it’s hard to find the energy for a family game night or a romantic dinner. This can create some tension at home.

Licensed Nurses

Nurses, whether they’re LPNs or LVNs, are on their feet all day (or night), taking care of patients and dealing with emergencies. Their shifts can change from day to night, and this lack of consistency makes it hard for family schedules. After work, they’re exhausted, physically and emotionally, and need to zone out. You don’t need us to tell you why that’s bad for a marriage!

First-line Supervisors of Correctional Offices

Correctional officer supervisors are essentially the guards’ bosses at a prison. They have to keep things under control and handle difficult situations that can pop up without a moment’s notice. As such, they usually bring that stress home because it’s hard to leave the job at the door when it might involve a lockdown. It’s a pressure cooker job waiting to explode—usually all over a marriage.

Dancers and Choreographers

Constant practice and difficult performances are all in a day’s work for dancers and choreographers. Unfortunately, rehearsals sometimes run late into the night, and their job requires as much of their physical stamina as it does their time. If that wasn’t bad enough, the pressure to stay in top physical shape and deliver flawless performances can make home life more stressful.
