Fitness is surely good for everyone and helps you maintain a healthy life. However – some fitness trends (even ones that are so popular on social media!) are actually not so healthy. Many people jump on the wave of new fitness trends – not even knowing that they might come at the cost of their health.
In this list, we will present some of the most popular fitness trends that do more harm than good. We will also explain why the mentioned fitness trends could be harmful rather than helpful.

Extreme Dieting Plans

There are some trends that promote ‘extreme’ dieting, such as cutting out whole food groups and even eating significantly less than is actually healthy for your body. Although these diets can offer a quick fix for weight loss, they can lead to serious complications in the long run. Your body needs a variety of different nutrients to function at an optimal level. If you drastically restrict your food intake – you’ll begin to feel lethargic. Ultimately, it could lead to a more serious problem — such as nutrient deficiencies, which affect your energy levels and overall state of health.
Overly Intense Workouts

Some fitness programs advocate exercising to the extreme — training at high intensity and pushing your body to its limits as often as possible. It makes sense, right? The more you put into your workout, the more you get out of it, right? In fact, just the opposite can happen. Training at a high intensity too regularly doesn’t give your muscles and joints the time they need to rest and recover. This often leads to sprains or even long-lasting damage. Not to mention — if you are constantly going at full speed, you will get to a point where you feel burned out. The better approach is to slow down, listen to your body and make sure that you remain consistent.
Detox Teas and Supplements

Ads for detox teas and supplements promise that you can flush the toxins out of your body and then watch the pounds disappear. What should you know about these products? Evidence shows that these teas often won’t do much and may even harm you. Many of the teas contain laxatives – which cause you to lose water and can be dangerous if they cause you to become dehydrated. Your own body has its own natural way to get rid of toxins without outside help — the liver and kidneys are quite capable of the job. If you use these products, your digestion will be upset and you are likely to feel unfulfilled because the results, if any, will be short-lived.
Waist Trainers

Waist trainers are tight waist garments, which give the illusion of a smaller waste. They might help you hide fat, but they still have no particular benefit in helping you to lose weight in the long term. They might squeeze your internal organs — which is both uncomfortable and can do some damage. They might also weaken and undermine your core muscles since the body gets used to depending on the trainer and will not even try to engage its core. It’s the engagement of the muscles that will help you with an actual result, not a squeeze.
No Pain, No Gain Mentality

‘No pain, no gain’ has become an overused fitness motto. However, it’s not always true. Soreness caused by a vigorous workout is normal, but pain is a warning flag. Ignore that warning and you will potentially sustain an injury, from a muscle strain to a joint issue. You need to learn the difference between pushing yourself and overdoing it. Fitness should challenge you, but it shouldn’t leave you hurting all the time.
Fitness Fads That Promise Instant Results

Some fitness trends claim you can transform your body in just a few weeks. They will promise to lose a lot of weight fast or gain tons of muscle — These trends are often misleading. Quick fixes like these usually don’t last because they rely on unsustainable habits. Real fitness takes time, patience and steady effort.
High-Impact Cardio Without Rest

High-impact cardio exercise – like running or jumping – is fantastic for your heart and fitness overall. But when you do it too much without giving your body a break, it can lead to problems. Constantly pounding on your joints with no recovery time can cause pain in your knees, hips, or ankles. If you continue to push on, before you know it, it could lead to chronic injury.
Lifting Too Heavy

Heavy weights are necessary for weightlifting. but lifting heavy without proper form can be dangerous. A lot of people try to lift more weight than they should – thinking it will help them build muscle faster. But lifting with bad form can put too much stress on your back, knees and shoulders. This leads to serious injuries. A good rule of thumb is to always train with good form — even if that means lighter weights.
Overuse of Fitness Technology

Gadgets like fitness bands, apps and various other newer devices that claim to help you keep track of your progress are hugely popular. But if you rely on them too much, it can create unhealthy stress. Fixating on how many steps a day you’ve done or how many calories you’ve burned or how your heart rate has risen — can turn fitness into a numbers game. This is a surefire way to switch off your enjoyment of the activity.
Eliminating All Rest Days

Some fitness trends encourage working out every single day without taking any breaks. This might seem like a good way to get in shape faster, but it actually works against you. Rest days are just as important as workout days because they give your muscles time to recover and grow. Doing otherwise increases your chances of feeling fatigued again, developing an injury or losing motivation.
