Nobody’s perfect—and especially when we’re busy or distracted. But the little things we do (or don’t do) can come off as rude to others around us. Let’s talk about 11 common habits that might be bugging people around us more than we think. These everyday slip-ups are worth a second look!

Interrupting During Conversations

Getting cut off mid-sentence isn’t the best feeling because it makes you feel like what you have to say isn’t worth hearing. We all get excited or have lots on our minds but making a point to listen until someone’s done talking shows you respect their thoughts. Better yet, it makes conversations more enjoyable for everyone.
Not Tipping Adequately

When you’re out eating or drinking, you should remember that servers often depend on tips to make up their wages. Skimping on a tip without a good reason can really affect their day. Of course, we’re not saying you have to go crazy with your tips—but if the service was okay, why not leave the usual 15-20%? It’s a small way to say thanks.

Talking in a Movie Theater

We’ve all been there—trying to enjoy a movie and someone’s chatting away next to you. It’s so annoying! Talking during a film ruins the experience for others. Unless it’s an emergency, you should keep quiet so that everyone can enjoy the movie without distractions. You’re better off saving the commentary for after the show.
Blocking the Aisle in the Grocery Store

There’s nothing worse in a grocery store than getting stuck behind a cart parked right in the middle of the aisle. So don’t let that be you! The next time you’re shopping, try to keep your cart to one side so others can pass by easily because it keeps the traffic moving. You wouldn’t do it with your car so why do it with your cart?
Not RSVPing to Events

While ignoring an invite might not seem like a big deal it can actually cause a lot of problems for the hosts. They’re counting on invites to help them plan things like food & seating. As such, a quick response (yes or no) helps them prepare for the event. Better yet, it shows you respect their efforts.
Leaving Messy Public Spaces

Coffee cups on tables, wrappers on benches—leaving a mess behind is a huge mistake. You should follow the rule that if you used it, you should clean it up. No excuses! Taking a few minutes to be courteous makes public spaces nicer for everyone. Don’t you care about your community?
Using Speakerphone in Public

No one wants to hear your private conversations on speakerphone while they’re shopping or sitting in a park. Keep it down—or better yet, use headphones so that you’re not imposing on other people’s peace. After all, you never know what secrets you’re accidentally spilling by speaking so loudly.
Ignoring Store Employees

When someone at a store greets you or asks if you need help, ignoring them is completely rude. They’re people just like you—so treat them as such. A quick nod or a simple “No, thanks” is all it takes to make a huge difference and you might even brighten up their day. It’s just polite to be this way!
Not Holding Doors for Others

It only takes a second to hold a door for the person behind you so don’t be that person who doesn’t do it. Otherwise, you just come off careless—especially if the door almost closes on them. Holding a door is an easy way to be considerate & honestly, it’s good karma too. Spread that good cheer!
Parking in Two Spots

Don’t you just hate it when you go to the store and someone’s car is straddling two spots? Yeah, it’s frustrating & quite inconsiderate in places where parking is tight. Take a moment to adjust and fit your car neatly into one spot. This way, you can save someone else a lot of hassle because you’ll keep the parking lot orderly.
Not Managing Your Pet in Public

Pets are great but when they’re out and about, you have to keep them under control. Not everyone is a fan of dogs! Letting your pet jump on strangers or not cleaning up after them can really rub people the wrong way. As such, make an effort to manage your pet and respect everyone around you.
