I remember once telling my father how much I was fond of his ability to solve problems, and the smile on his face said it all. It made me realize men, though also interested in this sort of compliment, probably didn’t hear it much. Sometimes a little compliment can make someone feel seen, in ways they might not be used to.
We asked 20 guys to tell us what kind of things they wish to hear, and here are the top 6 types of compliments men want to hear more.

Compliment His Effort

Whether it’s their profession or their role at home, men work hard on various aspects of their lives. Unless you praise a man for mowing the yard or cleaning his bathroom, he would never know that these tasks made you happy. Telling him something like – “I see how much work you put into everything,” shows that his effort is not a waste.
Praise His Intelligence

Although we often compliment our fathers, brothers, husbands or boyfriends for their physical strength, they also want to see their intelligence appreciated. Just tell them things like, “You somehow always make things work” or “You always think about the future and it is so great.” This will make them happy.

Recognize His Kindness

Many times, men feel their more gentle and nurturing side is not valued. Saying something like, “You are so considerate,” or even “I like how kind you can be,” reminds him of these fantastic behaviors. This kind of compliment points to his values and allows him to believe that he’s doing something good for the world.
Admire His Looks

Most of the time, men are not complimented for how they look physically. Whenever a woman looks at him, lifts an eyebrow and smiles, it definitely sparkles him up. Even a simple “you look amazing today” or “I absolutely love your smile!” goes far.
Appreciate His Support

Guys will often do things that are supportive in relationships, and we need to appreciate them. When you appreciate their support saying how grateful you are – “Thanks for being there when I needed someone” or “I appreciate how you’re always there for me,” it shows them that their support is noticed and valued.
Compliment His Skills

Telling men, “You’re so good at that,” or “you always get things done” help to make them feel capable and competent. It definitely makes their confidence go up, as per the men we surveyed.
