A Strained Relationship
The original poster (OP), a 25-year-old woman, states that she doesn’t usually talk to her mother.
But today, OP had to go to her house to get an important document that she forgot when she moved out seven years ago.
When OP arrived, her mother suddenly had a big “emergency.” OP’s mother realized it was her friend’s funeral today, and she completely forgot about it. OP couldn’t help but roll her eyes inside because there’s always some drama with her, which is why OP has kept very little contact with her.
An Unexpected Request Leads to Frustration
The mother asked OP to watch her two younger brothers, who are 7 and 11 years old, while she went to her friend’s funeral.
OP said ‘No’ right away because it was her only day off. OP had plans, and she hadn’t even seen her brothers for years because OP’s mother kept them away from her. All OP wanted was to grab her birth certificate and leave.
But before OP could say anything, her mother rushed out of the house, leaving OP in the house.
OP was furious, but she decided to wait for just 10 minutes as she asked.
When OP’s mother’s friend arrived, she started scolding OP for not agreeing to take care of her brothers. That’s when OP has had enough. OP told her mother’s friend,
“I don’t have anything to do with my mother, it’s my day off work, and I’m under no obligation to look after anyone else’s children.”

OP started to leave, and her mother’s friend asked where she was going. She replied by saying that she is going to her apartment, where she pays the rent with her big girl job because she is an adult, not a child.
After that, OP’s mother bombarded her with messages and missed calls, calling her out for how OP spoke to her mother’s friend.
OP admits she might look young, but she is still upset about how her friend treated OP.
