9 mistakes older men don’t realize make them unattractive to women

Age doesn’t mean you become less attractive, but there are certain habits and grooming errors that can cause a senior man to appear less attractive than he actually is.

Unruly details

Hair starts growing all over a man’s ears, nostrils and eyebrows as he ages. While these changes are completely natural, many men overlook them as they tend to be less self-critical about their appearance now.

A couple of stray eyebrow hairs or stray nose hairs can detract from an otherwise clean-shaven appearance. A quick weekly trim requires minimal effort and helps a man appear more polished.

Showing off money

Financial stability is attractive, especially when it is due to sound decision-making. Some older men believe that because they own a home, drive a nice car and have money for retirement, women will throw themselves at them. They may frequently brag about their investments, income or things they can buy.

Women wonder if he has anything else to offer besides money on an emotional level. Kindness, warmth, sense of humor and true interest in another person cannot be replaced by wealth.

Outdated attitudes

Nothing kills a good conversation quicker than a man going on a rant about how women these days are too high maintenance, too independent or not like women used to be. He thinks he’s voicing his beliefs; she hears hatred towards her gender. Constant grumbling about the way girls are these days can also indicate that he blames women for why he hasn’t had any luck.

Dry, flaky skin

Dry skin is common in older age, especially on hands, elbows, and ankles. Certain men neglect noticeable flaking or cracked skin, thinking skincare is silly or too feminine. But unkempt, dry skin that looks rough and scaly can be unattractive during physical contact. Using some mild moisturizer and addressing ongoing skin issues can improve this without excessive pampering.

Future without her

A senior can talk excitedly about his retirement dreams, dream home, travel goals, or five-year plan of where he wants to live. But he talks about everything like the woman he’s seeing is just going to drop into his life and fit into place.

He might expect her to move cities, change schedules, or give up dreams she had but never asks about what she wants. It’s fine to have plans, but women might turn off when they don’t see a place for themselves in his plan.

Unwanted advice

Some older men love to lecture women, even when no one asked for advice. A woman could mention something that happened at work, and he’ll launch into a ten-minute monologue of how she should have done something different. While age can bring knowledge, if you’re always acting as if you know better, it’ll never be a two-way conversation. Most women want a man who will listen to what they have to say and value their opinion, not a man who lectures them.

Poor dental care

A handsome smile is an important asset for men. However, dull teeth, chronic bad breath or ill-fitting dentures can make intimacy unpleasant. Some men accept dental decay as unavoidable once they get older and don’t notice changes.

A bit of natural discolouring isn’t the end of the world, but having bad breath or dirty teeth is still undesirable. Regular dental appointments can really help you feel more self-assured when dating.

Selective memory

A man can remember every facet of a business negotiation from 20 years ago but continue to forget things she’s told him about her life. He might have a photographic memory for his truck’s capabilities but struggle to recall her best friend’s name or a pivotal date she’s brought up often.

Everyone forgets things occasionally, no matter their age. But if he only remembers things that are important to him, she may feel like her world is not important enough for him to notice.

Lost curiosity

Some older men slowly lose interest in hobbies, friends or doing things outside of their normal routine. They talk about doctor’s appointments, household fixes, TV or how great everything was 20 years ago.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being content to enjoy the simple things in life, but zero curiosity makes it hard to build an exciting connection. A man who is still learning, laughing, exploring and growing in interests typically has exponentially more to offer a potential mate.
