Those begging eyes are hard to resist, but the American Kennel Club warns many holiday dishes are dangerous. These five, served plain, get the green light.
Plain Turkey Meat
Skinless, boneless turkey meat is the safest share on the table — just no skin, no bones, and no gravy, the AKC stresses. Cooked bones can splinter, so a few bites of plain breast meat make the perfect treat.
Pumpkin Puree
Plain canned pumpkin (not pie filling) is a fiber-rich favorite vets often recommend. The AKC lists pumpkin among its approved Thanksgiving foods. A spoonful on dinner adds flavor without the sugar and spices of pie.
Green Beans
Plain green beans, raw or steamed, are a crunchy low-calorie share. The AKC includes them on its safe list — just skip the butter and the casserole treatment. They make great training treats year-round.
Sweet Potato
Baked or boiled sweet potato, served plain, is packed with nutrients dogs can enjoy. The AKC approves it — just hold the marshmallows, brown sugar, and butter. Mash a small portion plain and cool before serving.
Apple Slices
Crisp apple slices are a sweet, safe nibble most dogs love. The AKC says apples are fine, but skip the seeds and core. Remember the danger list too: onions, grapes, xylitol, and chocolate can be seriously harmful.
