Late-night store runs are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Many big retailers that used to keep their doors open around the clock are now closing earlier than ever due to staffing issues, low late-night traffic, or just changing priorities. So here are 13 retailers that have scaled back their hours and shut their doors overnight.

Hy-Vee

Hy-Vee stores used to stay open 24 hours, which was super convenient for shift workers or night owls. But now? Most close sometime between midnight and 5 a.m.
Walmart

For years, Walmart was one of the most popular retailers to visit at night. But after the pandemic, they ditched the overnight service. The company made it very clear it had no plans to bring back all-night shopping.
Meijer

For a while, Meijer was actually more well-known for their “overnight access” than Walmart. In fact, many of Meijer’s Midwest stores remained open until dawn. But recently, Meijer has shut things down much earlier, usually by midnight.
Albertsons / Vons

Some Albertsons and Vons stores, especially in places like Las Vegas, used to run 24/7. These days, they’ve dialed it back to more traditional hours, usually closing around midnight. Not exactly “round the clock” anymore.
CVS Pharmacy

CVS was once known for having 24-hour locations all over the place. But most CVS stores across the country have stopped being open 24 hours a day, especially in smaller or lower-traffic areas. A sad development for anyone needing late-night medicine.
7-Eleven (Some Locations)

7-Eleven literally has “24/7” in its DNA, but even they’ve scaled back in some spots. But recently, they have made hundreds of “underperforming” locations close down permanently and have shortened hours in others.
Walgreens

Walgreens is also on the list of big-name companies that have stopped staying open all night long. While there are still a few 24-hour Walgreens locations, most have abandoned their overnight hours.
McDonald’s (Selected Stores)

McDonald’s used to be all about that 24-hour drive-thru life. But these days, many locations across the country are closing up shop as early as midnight. Sad days for anyone who needs fast food grease to hit the after-hours highway.
Safeway

Safeway is not one of the most common supermarket brands that stayed open overnight, but some locations used to be 24/7. These days, almost all of their stores close down between 10 and 11 p.m.
Kroger

Kroger stores used to be one of the most popular for overnight shopping in many neighborhoods. These days, they close up shop late in the evening so workers can restock and clean up. Overnight shopping is off the table now.
Rite Aid

Rite Aid is going through some tough financial times and closing a lot of stores. To save money, they’ve also cut back on staying open overnight.
Giant Eagle

Giant Eagle used to have a few supermarkets that were open 24 hours, but many of those were in high-traffic areas. Today, Giant Eagle is closing up the majority of their locations by 10 or 11 p.m. Most of these are stores in more rural or low-traffic areas.
Stop & Shop

Stop & Shop used to be another major retailer with many 24/7 locations. Many of these were concentrated in the Northeastern U.S. But within the past few years, most of these stores have dropped the overnight hours.
