11 things people post that feel desperate

Needy posts are everywhere on social media. You know the ones. They’re the kinds of posts that show someone’s begging for attention, whether or not they’re willing to admit it. A few readers told us what they think & here are eleven things people post that feel desperate. Which one annoys you the most?

Micro follower milestones every day

Hitting 1,900 followers is exciting. But then you see another post about how they’ve reached 1,903, then again at 1,910 & then again at 1,917. Essentially, their entire feed becomes a wall of analytics and little green arrows. They’ll include captions like “so close to 2k” with each milestone. Yet it’s really not that amazing.

Hospital snapshots without any context

Nothing makes people curious quite like a wristband selfie. Someone posts their arm with an IV attached to it, along with a picture of the monitor. And you can guarantee that it’ll have a caption that says, “not ready to explain,” along with another update that says, “still here.” No names & no details. Nope, just enough images to let everyone know they’re at a hospital.

Fake “about to delete” announcements

Oh, the classic “might delete later.” You’ve almost definitely seen this under someone’s completely normal photo, like a mirror picture or maybe a coffee cup. But their post sticks around for weeks. It never gets deleted at all. The only thing people remember is that the person made this announcement, rather than the picture.

Writing paragraphs under a simple selfie

But that’s not all for selfies. Some people post regular selfies with captions that are practically full monologues. They’ll talk about not being appreciated & not being seen, as well as not being valued, which is a complete mismatch. A casual picture but a heavy caption? Something’s not adding up.

Sharing horoscope memes about being unloved

There are some people who simply can’t scroll past an astrology meme without hitting repost. It’s always the same theme, too, about being ignored or giving too much. They can’t resist sharing one about not getting enough love. After a while, those horoscopes become more like a biography that they’re desperately trying to share with everyone else. Yuck.

Uploading endless mirror selfies in one sitting

Tap on their profile. What do you see? Well, chances are, you’ll probably be left scrolling through a whole session of mirror shots, with the same background & same outfit. They’re just slightly different angles. As for the captions? These are usually a half-smile emoji or nothing at all.

Posting screenshots of songs with sad captions

Instead of playlists, these people share one screenshot after another of breakup ballads. They’re constantly sharing moody tracks. However, it’s never the song that’s important, but the captions that they love piling on. They’re always something soppy.

Announcing they’re deleting social media but never leaving

Desperate people always feel the need to share a goodbye post whenever they decide to leave. It’ll be something like, “too much, I’m logging off.” They never do. The next morning, they’re back, posting memes or whatever else, just like usual. Any social media breaks they do take are short-lived at best. At worst? They’re cries for attention.

Constantly reposting “check on your strong friends” quotes

Almost every day, you’ll see black-and-white quote graphics on their story, saying things like “nobody checks on the strong ones.” They never take a break. Now, it stops looking motivational and seems more like a steady reminder aimed at their own circle. They’re waiting for someone to finally give them the attention they’re so desperate for.

Always sharing “good morning” and “good night” posts

Their day starts & ends with the same story, which is a “good morning” & “good evening” post. It’s not creative. It’s not new. Really, it just looks like they’re clocking in and clocking out of the app just to see who’s still watching. And honestly? That’s probably what’s actually going on.

Posting countdowns to vacations

Their vacation hasn’t even started. But you wouldn’t know it from their stories. They’ve already posted a countdown to the day they leave, although most people don’t really care about it, nor are they counting down either. The truth is, they’re just advertising their trip. They want everyone else to know they’re going on vacation for…some weird reason.
