11 stresses that tend to fade with age

As we grow older, some of the things we might have worried about earlier in life lose their importance. The pressures and anxieties that are so present in our youth pass on — we begin to focus more on what truly makes us happy, letting go of other worries that once seemed massive.

Here are 11 things you won’t need to worry about as you get older – getting older itself included!

Fitting in with Trends

With age – you stop worrying about what’s trendy and simply wear what you like. You grow into your style and choose your outfits for the way they complement your body and personality.

Impressing Peers

As you get older you don’t care what people think because most of them have strong opinions that are irrelevant to your life anyways. You stop trying to impress people. You realize that it’s more important to have one good friend than to just have a lot of ‘fake’ friends. You no longer worry about having a large group of friends to show off.

Meeting Social Expectations

You start to relinquish your need to meet extrinsic expectations – whether it’s getting married and having children or ticking off the various rites of passage. You practice the course of life that you feel is authentically your own.

Constantly Seeking Approval

You become less and less concerned about what other people think of you. This is not because you’re over-confident in your choices — but because you’ve learnt to trust your own judgment and take responsibility of any mistakes. You know how to live the consequences of your decisions – whether good or bad – and don’t need other people’s praise in order to be happy.

Making Everyone Happy

Trying to please everybody is tiring. When you get older you lose the desire to please all the time. If you take care of yourself first, you are in a better position to help others. You learn that you can’t please everyone and you stop trying to.

Competing with Others

You tend to care less about competing with others as you get older. You come to care more about how you yourself are doing – finding satisfaction in your own growth and accomplishments – not in trying to outdo others or comparing favorably with them.

Keeping Up with Fast-Paced Lifestyles

As you grow older, you begin to slow down. The mad dash of daily life eventually gives way to a slower, wiser rhythm, a more thoughtful pace.

Worrying About What Others Think

You become much less concerned with what others think. You become more comfortable with your own opinions – and your own choices. You become more able to shrug off the opinions of those around you. Judgments from others feel more like an external phenomenon, and your attention is more turned inward, towards a life that increasingly feels as it should be.

Chasing After Every Opportunity

You no longer want to go for every opportunity that comes your way; instead, you pick those that fit with your values and goals. You start making better choices – and end up discovering more satisfying opportunities.

Stress Over Minor Issues

Smaller problems and annoyances do seem easier to deal with as you age. Certain things that used to matter to you just don’t carry much importance anymore, while other issues take on heightened significance.

Keeping Up with Technology

It’s not mandatory to keep up with every new tech trend. You end up adopting technologies that work best with your everyday lifestyle. Pressure to learn every brand-new gizmo lessens, and the tasks you do with tech become more pragmatic.
