Parents don’t always realize which toys are worth holding onto until it’s too late. At the time, clearing out old dolls, games, and gadgets felt like making space. But when we asked a group of parents about it, many admitted they wish they had saved some of those childhood favorites, whether for the memories, to pass down to their kids, or even for the surprising value they hold today.
Beanie babies

Beanie Babies were everywhere in the ’90s, but a lot of parents threw them out once the craze died down. They wish they hadn’t, at least for the nostalgia if not the money. Their kids would have loved to dig through a collection today.
Barbie dream houses

The giant pink dollhouses took up half the living room. Lots of parents gave them away. But now, they wish they hadn’t because they see how magical they were for playtime. Their grandkids would have gotten so much joy from it too.
Hot Wheels tracks

The bright orange tracks that looped around the house were often bent, broken, or tossed out once kids outgrew them. Parents now say they regret it because the sets were easy fun and could have been rebuilt for younger siblings later on.
LEGO sets

Parents eventually got tired of tripping over those pointy little bricks. Most donated or sold them. But now, they wish they hadn’t because LEGO really never goes out of style. Those old sets would be worth both money and happy memories today.
Polly pocket

These tiny playsets were too small to keep track of. Parents ended up losing most of them or donating them over time. They regret it now because Polly Pocket was such a portable and unique toy. Kids would love it today, and some vintage sets are worth a surprising amount of money.
Nintendo game boys

Lots of families sold or gave away their old Game Boys when new consoles came out. Parents wish they hadn’t because the little devices are worth a lot to collectors today. Their own kids would have loved having one for the throwback value.
American girl dolls

These dolls were a big investment to buy, and most parents didn’t keep them once kids lost interest. Parents look back and regret it because dolls and their accessories can become family heirlooms.
Fisher-price little people sets

The chunky, colorful figures and playsets were so much fun, and they lasted a long time. But many got donated over the years. Parents now wish they had kept them for their grandkids, because newer versions just aren’t the same.
Cabbage patch kids

CPKs were a must-have toy for kids, but a lot of parents gave them away once their kids outgrew them. Now they regret it because they see how much sentimental value and quirky charm the dolls still hold.
Teddy ruxpin

Kids were totally captivated by this talking bear, even though the cassette tapes inevitably broke or ran out of sound. Parents often threw them out when they stopped working. But today, they realize how iconic Teddy Ruxpin was and wish they’d saved him as a keepsake.
Board games from the ’80s and ’90s

Many parents cleared out closets of old board games like Candy Land, Mouse Trap, or Guess Who. Now they wish they hadn’t, because playing the same childhood games with their kids would have been a sweet way to pass down memories.
