We trust our tools. We purchase a blender or toaster from a well-known retailer and assume that it will simply work. We expect these appliances to help us accomplish tasks quicker and with less effort, never believing they could work against us.
However, as decades of recalls have proven, some of the deadliest products have been ones you’d never expect.
More often than not, it’s not an explosion and flashing lights. It’s something small and silent that goes unnoticed until someday someone will inevitably get injured by even the simplest boring cooking appliance.
IKEA 365+ VÄRDEFULL garlic press

IKEA has issued a recall for more than 43,000 of their 365+ VÄRDEFULL garlic presses. Users complained that while using the garlic press, the metal coating flakes off.
Check the bottom of yours for a date stamp between 2411 and 2522 to see if it was bought between March 2024 and May 2025.
The recall is happening because users face the possibility of sharp metal pieces becoming detached from these garlic presses while they are in operation which could result in mouth injuries.
Honestly, you’re probably better off just returning it for free. IKEA will refund everyone 100%, even if you don’t have your receipt.
Greater Goods digital kitchen scales

Greater Goods expanded their voluntary recall of digital scales this week after discovering 350,000 units have battery compartments that are easily accessible.
The coin batteries on these scales are a top choking risk since kids can access them.
However, if you own one of the 13 models sold on Walmart and Amazon websites, you can keep your scale. Just visit their website to order a free repair kit that comes with a locked battery cover.

Shark Ninja Foodi OP300 series pressure cookers

Stop pressure cooking with your Ninja Foodi if it’s model OP300.
Nearly 2 million have been sold since 2019 and they’re being recalled because the lids can fail to lock. It’s a burn hazard that has already caused dozens of 2nd and 3rd degree burns and led to multiple lawsuits.
You don’t have to throw the whole thing away but you should stop using it as a pressure cooker until you get a new lid. SharkNinja is sending replacements at no cost.
Take a minute to check your model by reading the label on the side of your unit.
BlendJet 2 portable blenders

Say goodbye to your BlendJet 2, if you haven’t already. Almost 5 million portable blenders were recalled due to hundreds of reports of shattered blades and overheating batteries.
But with BlendJet Inc. having shut down permanently in May of 2025, the recall has been edited by the government to notify owners that replacements are no longer available.
As they’re still confirmed dangers and cannot be fixed, your best option is simply to cease use of it and throw away the unit.
PowerXL dual basket air fryers (Empower Brands)

Look in your kitchen if you have the PowerXL DUAF-10 or DUAF-005 air fryer. The brand announced a recall because the basket connector can snap off and melt, causing severe burns.
Around 319,000 air fryers are being recalled and customers are being asked to discontinue its use. The company simplifies your refund procedure by asking you to submit a photo of the cut power cord.
Oster French Door countertop ovens (Sunbeam/Oster)

Oster is recalling more than one million French Door countertop ovens due to burn hazard. The oven doors can unexpectedly pop closed while the unit is hot.
They’ve received nearly 100 injury reports so far, which confirms it’s dangerous. Instead of a refund, they’ll send you a free repair kit that has magnets to hold the doors in place.
Check on the back of your oven for the model number. If it begins with TSST, you’ll want to order that kit and avoid using your oven until you receive it.

Ambiano cotton candy makers (Wuensche USA / ALDI)

Seeing how popular these were for children’s parties and birthdays, that’s a proven risk you don’t want to gamble with. ALDI is simplifying it as much as possible by allowing you to return the unopened machine for a refund.
