Why Is Kamala Harris Angry At Elizabeth Warren?

San Francisco, CA - August 23, 2019: Presidential candidate Kamala Harris speaking at the Democratic National Convention summer session in San Francisco, California.

Vice President Kamala Harris is reportedly upset with Senator Elizabeth Warren, a Democrat from Massachusetts. Senator Warren has caused a stir on social media by not endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as President Biden’s running mate in the 2024 election.

Poor Choice Of Words

In an interview with Boston Public Radio, Warren was asked whether she believed Harris should continue as Biden’s running mate. She replied, “I really want to defer to what makes Biden comfortable on his team,” adding that she has known Harris for a long time and they had worked together on the housing crisis.

Warren’s comments were picked up by the Republican National Committee, which shared a clip on Twitter. Several individuals, including Ted Cruz’s special adviser of communications, Steve Guest, speculated on the meaning behind Warren’s words.

Following the interview, Warren released a statement to GBH News, clarifying that she fully supports a Biden-Harris ticket. However, the damage was already done, and Harris’ team reportedly felt the snub keenly, seeing it as another example of a lack of respect and support for the vice president.

Democrats React

Democratic leadership reportedly expressed concern about the negative attention directed at Harris and feared it could become a political problem.

Such negative comments about Harris have been a recurring issue, with some criticizing her for not having achieved enough as vice president. These criticisms are seen as particularly hurtful, given that Warren herself was a rival to Harris for the vice-presidential nomination in 2020.

Kamala Harris Is Ignoring Warren

According to CNN, Warren has reached out to Harris twice to apologize for the snub, but Harris remains unresponsive.

The disagreement between the two powerful women has caused tension among Democratic leaders who are fearful that it may harm Biden’s chances for re-election in 2024. Some in Harris’ circle have accused Warren of disrespecting the vice president and have called for a reconciliation between the two for the sake of the party.

The New York Post reported that one person close to Harris described Warren’s comments as “pretty insulting,” and members of Harris’ camp view the slight as part of a pattern of disrespect towards the vice president.

Warren attempted to resolve the situation by reaching out to Harris and her chief of staff, Lorraine Voles, but there has been no response from Harris.

Concern About 2024

As the 2024 presidential election nears, Democratic leaders are concerned that negative attitudes towards Harris could harm Biden’s re-election chances. They are urging a reconciliation between Harris and Warren for the sake of the party and for Biden’s political future.

As per the New York Post, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker has called for an end to the denigration of Harris, stating that those who criticize her are only seeking to elevate themselves. Meanwhile, a state Democratic Party chair expressed concerns about Harris’ poll numbers and described her as an “albatross.”

Overall, while Warren’s clarification might have soothed some concerns about her stance, it has also highlighted the tension and uncertainty surrounding the future of the Biden-Harris ticket.
