There was a time when shopping malls were the highlight of my week. I’d wander from store to store and enjoy the hustle & bustle. But now I’m over 60 — I can’t think of anything less appealing! Here are my top ten reasons why I’ve sworn them off for good—and I bet some of these will sound familiar.

The Noise Is Too Much

Malls are loud. Between the crowds chatting away and music blasting from every direction, it’s like a constant assault on my ears. It’s overwhelming & stressful, especially when I just want to shop in peace. The noise follows you everywhere you go so that by the time you leave, you feel more drained than when you arrived.
Parking Is Always a Hassle

If you’ve ever circled a packed parking lot for what feels like hours, you know the pain. Finding a spot at a crowded mall is like winning the lottery. And when I do find one, it’s usually so far from the entrance that I wonder if I should’ve just stayed home. I’m already over the whole trip once I’ve parked & walked in.

Checkout Lines Take Forever

I can deal with shopping itself, but the checkout lines? No thanks. It doesn’t matter how many items I buy, I always seem to pick the slowest line and wait for 20 minutes just to pay for something that isn’t worth my time. Don’t even get me started on the self-checkout machines—they never seem to work right!
Crowds Make Shopping Stressful

Malls are packed with people and especially on weekends or during the holidays. There’s always someone blocking the aisle, then someone else rushing past like they’re late for a flight—it’s so stressful. As such, I’d rather avoid the pushing and shoving altogether. Shopping online gives you none of that hassle.
There’s No Personal Space

Similarly, personal space is hard to come by in a crowded mall since you have people brushing past you in the aisles or standing way too close in line. You can barely move without bumping into someone! I’d rather shop somewhere quiet where I’m not constantly dodging people—at least then I’d feel more comfortable.
Everything Feels Germy

Let’s face it—malls are germ factories. Think about all the people touching the same handrails & clothes and you’ll realize the germs are impossible to avoid. After the past few years, I’m more aware of germs than ever, making crowded places like malls feel way too risky. I’d rather shop in a smaller store where things are a little cleaner.
It’s Hard to Find My Way Around

Malls these days are so massive that once I walk in, I need a GPS to find the store I want. The maps & signs don’t make traversing crowded hallways any easier. If anything, just being in the mall is exhausting. You don’t even feel any relief when you’ve found what you’re looking for since you’ve likely spent more time wandering than shopping.
I Spend Money I Don’t Need To

You can’t help but feel tempted in the mall. Even when I go in with a plan, I always seem to leave with extra bags because stores are designed to make you spend through flashy displays & sales signs that make you think you’re getting a deal. Shopping from home makes it easier to stick to what I actually need.
The Hours Don’t Work for Me

Malls aren’t exactly flexible with their hours because they open late and close early—not so great for my schedule. I don’t want to rush my day just to get there before they shut down! And yet, with online shopping or smaller stores, I can shop on my own time without worrying about the hour.
It’s Just Too Exhausting

Shopping in a crowded mall takes all my energy, whether that’s from walking long distances or working through the chaos. It’s physically and mentally draining. That’s why I prefer convenient shopping these days—-I don’t want any of the hassle or stress that malls bring. It’s simply too much to deal with.
