10 TV Shows That Should Have Ended Way Sooner

Who doesn’t enjoy watching a good TV series that builds curiosity and excitement in the viewer’s mind? But the real problem is how often do we finish a TV series with the same enthusiasm as when we watched the first episode? Most series that begin amazing go on and on forever, and we, the viewers, get tired of them.

In this list, we’ll look at 10 such TV shows that should have ended sooner.

The Simpsons

The Simpsons is one of the longest-running TV shows in history. Most Simpsons’ fans believe that the show’s greatest years are in the past. While the show’s early episodes could be insightful and funny, the original wit and charm have been diminished over time.

Grey’s Anatomy

The first seasons of Grey’s Anatomy were full of tense medical drama and growing character dynamics. After 20 seasons, the TV series only adds to its already numerous cast. Viewers think that the show should have stopped airing a few seasons ago – before it stopped being emotional and enjoyable.

Sure, Supernatural was a fun fan favorite based on the combo of horror-comedy and brotherly love. The Winchester story has gone on for fifteen seasons, and as it does, the tale starts to tire. Though the first few seasons are a good mix of the various adversaries – by the time we get to the latest seasons, it has become an absolute retread of previous battles and overall storylines. If you ask fans, the series stopped being new after those opening episodes.

The Office (U.S.)

Everyone loves The Office — it’s one of the most cherished comedies of all time — but basically, when Steve Carell (Michael Scott) left after Season 7, fans think that should have been the end. The show went on a couple more seasons, but any “integrity” in humor that was there, was lost without its central character. The storylines began to get forced as they widened outside of the “workplace” charm.

How I Met Your Mother

In the beginning, How I Met Your Mother was delightful — with a fun and inventive storytelling angle and characters you could easily root for. But it all went on for too long, and it took far too long to meet the mother. Many fans felt that the ending was a hurried tying of threads after so much careful cultivation over seasons. People were left underwhelmed after finally meeting the mother.

Dexter

The show is very compelling in earlier seasons, as it builds our first expectations about the moral tug-of-war that must occupy a serial killer living an outward normal life. Fans believe that Dexter should have ended around season 4 when it was still at its peak. Instead, it plodded on through weaker storylines and ended in frustration — at some points anger, specifically with Dexter’s decisions in the finale.

Two and a Half Men

After season 8 of the show when Charlie Sheen left Two and a Half Men, it lost all heart. Instead, Ashton Kutcher was tapped to step in. The show would go on to last four seasons after Sheen’s character left – yet many believe the series should have been done with him.

Scrubs

Scrubs originated as a medical sitcom which had fun and – at times – sentimentality, but it should have finished after season 8. Season 9 tried to keep it going with some new faces, but the reboot didn’t capture imaginations and fans were left cold. Final scene in Season 8 brought everything to a fittingly emotional close; anything after that really smacked of redundancy.

The Walking Dead

Following the first few Walking Dead seasons, many fans began to feel that these storylines were just being dragged out with no real pay off. The show should have hung up its boots when fresh ideas began to run out years ago – yet it dragged on & several spin-offs were even created. None of these lived up to the hype.

Glee

Glee was a groundbreaking show for some seasons before veering off the rails after its original cast graduated. The secondary characters were not much better, as all they did was consistently let us know that we had new people in town (with newer — and stupider— backstories to explore).
