Have you ever wondered what your guests see the most when they walk in your door? I thought that people wouldn’t notice little things — but I learned that some things always get their attention. My mom once pointed out a smudge on my bathroom mirror during a visit & while she laughed it off, I felt embarrassed. Since that day, I’ve made it a habit to keep those easily noticed spots spotless. You’d be surprised at the difference that it makes when you pay attention to the small things.
I will share 12 such things guests always notice if they aren’t clean when they visit you at home.

Bathroom Mirrors

Wet mirrors, streaked with toothpaste or from dirty cleaning, become visible instantly in bright light. Even a foggy or dusty mirror can make the whole bathroom seem more old. Wish to give it a new look? Just clean it with a glass cleaner or with a vinegar solution.
Toilets

Visitors pay attention to the toilet bowl & the space around it – even if only subconsciously. The bottom can look ugly with stains or dirt. A weekly cleaning with a cleaner & a vacuuming of the floor around it can really help you keep your toilet looking fresh.

Hand Towels

Moist, stained, or too-old bathroom towels are a real bummer. Your guests want to dry their hands hygienically. Replace old towels with new fluffy towels when they come in & have a supply of extras just in case someone wants a new towel.
Kitchen Counters

It’s usually in the kitchen where sticky marks, crumbs or messy countertops quickly attract attention. Wash floors with a disinfectant & sweep away junk such as papers or broken appliances to create a fresh & inviting environment.
Light Switches

You see fingerprints, marks & dirt on light switches more often than you realize — particularly in the kitchens or bathrooms. They can look clean & hygienic with just a quick wipe with a wet cloth or disinfectant.
Door Handles

Guests walk through your house touching the door handles — so dirt, smudges & sticky spots are very easy to detect. Wiping handles with a light cleaner or disinfectant wipes helps to keep hands & surfaces clean, and it even stops germs from getting everywhere.
Floors

Whether it’s hardwood, tile, or carpet – your guests will observe dust, crumbs, or any sticky spots around the house. Carpets with staining or spots that aren’t vacuumed look messy. You can also quickly vacuum, mop, or sweep the room before visitors arrive to instantly make it feel nicer.
Trash Cans

Overflowing trash cans or ones with lingering odors are hard to ignore, especially in the kitchen & bathroom. Emptying the trash & wiping down or rinsing the bin every few days keeps it fresh & also helps stop odors from entering the house.
Windows

Window smudges, fingerprints, or dust in the windows block the light & it will make your room less pleasant. And clean windows let in a lot more light & make your home feel bigger & happier. So check the windows thoroughly inside & out to ensure that they are properly cleaned.
Ceiling Fans & Light Fixtures

Dusty ceiling fan blades or cobwebs hanging from light fixtures are highly noticeable, especially when the fan is on or the lights are illuminated. Dust & clean these items regularly to keep your home looking clean and tidy.
Baseboards

Baseboards gather dust, dirt & scratches over time. Guests sitting at eye level with these areas, like on a couch, will notice if they’re neglected. Your floors & walls will look spikier after a quick sweep with a wet cloth or vacuum attachment.
