We all deal with procrastination at some point of our lives. Whenever we have a deadline or a personal goal, we somehow find a way to delay it. The problem is, the more we put things off, the harder they become to start again. When this happens again and again, it becomes a cycle we cannot escape.
You might be wondering why you keep procrastinating. We talked to Eric Hernandez, an experienced life coach, to compile 10 common reasons why anyone might be putting things off. If any of these ring a bell for you, knowing these may help you break this bad habit and get things done on time.

Fear of Failure

As per Eric, when you’re always worried about not meeting expectations, it can really hold you back. The pressure to perfect things will often make you second-guess your decisions. This can also delay your tasks as you are afraid of making mistakes.
Lack of Motivation

Starting a task is hard if you don’t see a clear reason to do it. You may need some sort of reason to feel connected to what you’re supposed to achieve. There are different motivators and knowing what drives you can really help you get things done.
Overwhelm from Large Tasks

Sometimes, just the size of the job can give you a panic attack. Even breaking it down into smaller steps might feel like too much work. When you think about everything on your plate, it’s easy to say, “I’ll do it later”.
Poor Time Management

Failing to prioritize tasks can be super annoying. You might think things will take less time than they really do, which leads to panic when time runs out. Without a solid plan, you will easily get off track and find yourself scrambling to catch up.
Perfectionism

It is possible that you might hold back from finishing a task because you worry it won’t be flawless. It’s easy to get stuck reworking something instead of just just finishing it.
Lack of Focus

When you’re handling multiple tasks at once, it becomes difficult to focus on just one. The world is full of distractions and you will have a hard time concentrating for long. So, you will delay tasks to escape this pressure of trying to focus.
Low Energy or Fatigue

When your energy is drained, getting started on tasks can feel overwhelming. Sleep deprivation or poor self-care habits can also leave you feeling worn out, affecting your energy. It’s easy to put things off when you just don’t feel up to it.
Lack of Clear Goals

You want to get fit, but you haven’t set specific goals like “exercising four times a week” or “drinking a detox beverage every morning.” If your objectives are unclear, you may be confused about where to start, which can lead to putting off your tasks.
Indecisiveness

You have to make a decision between two job offers and can’t choose. You might spend days going back and forth, panicked about picking the wrong one. The fear of making the wrong choice usually paralyzes you. Thus, you are unable to commit to one decision.
Habitual Procrastination

Procrastination can turn into a habit with time. Your brain may get used to delaying things without you even realizing it. This cycle of delay can be tough to break, and you may keep falling into the same pattern again and again.
