Back in the day, walking your date home helped them get there safely and also gave you an extra chance to chat & connect. But now, we’re quick to hop in a ride-share and call it a night. Let’s slow down and walk our dates home so we can show them that we’re genuinely interested. Who knows—it could even lead to a perfect goodnight kiss on the porch!

Writing Love Letters

Of course, texting is quick & convenient but it lacks the personal touch of a handwritten love letter. Just imagine finding a letter in your mailbox with your name written on the envelope in beautiful handwriting. It sounds wonderful! Writing letters makes you think about what you really want to say and getting one is a thrill that no digital message can match. It’s guaranteed to make the other person happy.

Asking Permission for a Date

While it might sound old-fashioned, asking someone out properly is a mark of respect. It shows you’ve put thought into the invitation and you’re not simply going out with anyone who’ll take you. Asking them properly will also help you both feel more excited about the date itself. This way, it feels more like a special event than just another hangout.

Dressing Up for Dates

Once upon a time, people used to actually dress up for a date because it showed that the occasion was special. Let’s bring this back! Throwing on something nice before you head out sets the tone for the entire evening and makes it feel like an event. It shows you care & you’re excited about the date. That’s pretty flattering for your date.

Bringing Flowers

Flowers on a first date are a classic gesture for a reason—they’re a simple and charming way to show you’re thinking about the other person. Plus, giving flowers is a great icebreaker that’ll start things off with a smile. Let’s bring this tradition back and make every date feel extra special.

Going Steady

When you hear “going steady,” you probably imagine 1950s high school sweethearts but it’s actually a phrase that shows clear communication between the pair of you. Instead of nonsense terms like “situationship” — “going steady” means you’re both on the same page about the relationship. If we brought this term back, it’d make modern relationships much less confusing. We’d all know where we stand.

Courting Through Home Visits

There was a time when you’d go over to someone’s house and get to know their family. This habit made dating more community-oriented & personal. Today, meeting someone in their home setting could be a useful way of showing you’re serious about getting to know them and their background. It’d certainly help to make your connection stronger.

Sharing Milkshakes

The idea of you and your date with a couple of straws & a milkshake sounds like something from a movie. But it doesn’t have to be! There are plenty of diners where you can share a classic moment for a bit of fun. You’ll both have the chance to enjoy something sweet together—literally and figuratively.

Waiting to Kiss

Saving that first kiss for the right moment makes it all the more special. Instead of rushing into physical affection, we should practice building some anticipation so the connection feels a lot more meaningful when it finally happens. By waiting, the first kiss becomes a moment to truly remember!

Planning Surprise Dates

Nothing says “I care” quite like planning a surprise date because it shows you’re invested enough to think about what the other person might enjoy. It really doesn’t matter what you choose, like tickets to their favorite band’s concert or a picnic in the park. Any surprise date is the perfect way to make the day/night far more memorable. Go ahead and be thoughtful!

Attending Social Dances or Balls

We miss the days when attending a social dance was the highlight of our social life. After all, it was a chance to dress up & meet people while enjoying some elegant fun together. If we brought this back, it’d make dating a lot more glamorous! It doesn’t have to be every date—just one social dance or ball is enough of a magical experience.
