If You Want A Less Stressful Life, Start Saying ‘No’ to These 11 Things

I always feel that “stress” gets into my life at the worst times. I’ve been there — being too good, aiming high, saying yes to things that left me depleted and unfulfilled. Then, it took a while to see that “no” was the lever with which I could turn everything. It’s not just about not saying “no” to things; it’s about making room in your life for the things that really count. Just like me, if you have been feeling a bit stifled lately, maybe you need to reconsider your “yeses.” For a more peaceful, happier you, here are 11 things you can start saying “No” to.

Unnecessary Commitments

Priorities

Sometimes we get stuck at accepting every invitation or project, whether it’s a friend’s birthday party or doing extra work at the office. But with time I realized that when we are jacked up, we have no time for rest or for what we really love. So before giving it a nod, always check and decide whether it is on your priority list or not.

Toxic Relationships

Have you ever noticed that no matter what some people just bring negativity & drama or tension to your life? You might not want to part with them if you’ve known them for a while, but when you hang on to them, they can absorb all your positive energy and joy. So, if someone doesn’t respect you and your limits, just try to keep them outside your space.

Overworking

I know it’s all too easy to say yes to every extra shift, second job, or late email. But working too hard can always result in burnout, exhaustion, and even sickness. You have to remember that rest is no less important than work.

People-Pleasing

No one needs to be happy with you, and trying to make everybody happy is stressful enough. If you say no, it doesn’t make you a bad person — it just makes you care enough about yourself to be selfish.

Doing Things Out of Guilt

We’ve all felt obligated to do something we didn’t want to, like go to an event because we had to or lend a hand when we have too many on our plate. Helping others is a good thing, but don’t do it at the cost of your own mental wellbeing.

Distractions & Time Wasters

Surfing on social media & watching TV can take up hours in a day. You should relax, but you become stressed and ineffective with these activities. I believe it is always better to invest that time in hobbies, studying, or just resting & relaxing.

Unrealistic Expectations

And sometimes the drive to be a star at work, or to be perfect in a relationship, even when to look perfect when it comes to your appearance, stems from unrealistic expectations of yourself or others. You never feel good enough if you try to be up to these criteria. Don’t be a perfectionist, instead embrace progressive thinking.

Overdoing It

Whether it’s overeating junk food, overspending or staying up too late, anything excess makes you regret it. By refusing all that is “too much”, you’re able to be on track and live a better life.

Arguing Over Little Things

Drama

It is easy to become caught up in trivial arguments – such as who’s right about something trivial. These disputes just sap your energy so much, so try to avoid them whenever you can to keep your nerves healthy and feeling sane.

Neglecting Self-Care

When life is busy, self-care tends to be the last thing to go. You might skip meals, go to bed later or not do things you want to do. Yet, ignoring self-care can cause long-term stress. Don’t make yourself an afterthought & take care of yourself first.

FOMO (Fear of Missing Out)

Social media makes it easy to feel like you’re missing out on everything, from parties to vacations. This fear can push you to say “yes” to things you don’t really want to do. Just resist FOMO and stick to your happiness. You know, sometimes staying home and enjoying a cup of your favorite mint tea is what you really need to feel better.
