Growing up with smartphones & social media has given Gen Z a different outlook on things—it shows in the things they get worked up about. Most of these complaints seem minor to older people, yet they’re rather important for Gen Z. Here are thirteen things that Gen Z often complains about that don’t matter to anyone else at all.

Lack of Dark Mode on All Apps

Gen Z loves dark mode and when an app doesn’t have it, they get seriously annoyed because they think that dark mode helps reduce eye strain & saves battery life. It’s more than just an aesthetic choice for them and they hate websites or apps that only have bright, white backgrounds! Older generations may not even notice whether dark mode is available but Gen Z sees it as an essential feature.
Platform-Specific Emojis Not Displaying Correctly

Gen Z pays close attention to emojis and they get frustrated when emojis look different on other platforms—for example, sending an emoji that looks happy on their phone but appears awkward on someone else’s device changes the whole message. They care a lot about how their digital communication comes across. As such, inconsistent emojis are a real pet peeve that they simply can’t get over.
Limited Diversity in Video Game Avatars

Gen Z wants avatars that truly represent them in video games so they’ll get annoyed when games don’t give them options for different skin tones, body types, or cultural backgrounds. Doing so makes them feel left out, especially since they believe that everyone should see themselves in the games they play. Some gamers might not think twice about this, although Gen Z sees it as an important part of the gaming experience.
Content Not Available for Streaming

Gen Z expects everything to be available for streaming and that’s mostly because they don’t remember a world without films on demand! They get annoyed when they can’t find a movie or show on Netflix or Hulu—the idea of having to buy or rent content individually feels outdated to them. Instead, they want instant access without extra hassle, while older generations might be fine with cable TV schedules or DVDs.
Losing Snapstreaks with Friends

Keeping streaks alive on apps like TikTok or Snapchat is important for Gen Z—a snapstreak, for example, shows that they’ve had a constant exchange of snaps with a friend. They’ll feel let down if someone forgets to send a snap & losing a streak feels like losing a part of their daily routine. Anyone who doesn’t use Snapchat might not get it but for Gen Z, it’s an important part of their social interactions.
Older Generations Using Outdated Memes

Gen Z doesn’t like it when older folks use memes that are out of date as it makes them feel embarrassed or annoyed. They hate seeing parents or teachers share old memes on social media—it’s a major social faux pas for them! Of course, others might just think it’s all in good fun but Gen Z takes meme culture seriously and they wish other generations had this same attitude.
Brands Misusing Memes to Appeal to Youth

Speaking of memes, Gen Z usually cringes & complains when brands try too hard to be cool by using memes incorrectly—they know when a company doesn’t really get the humor. They also hate companies that just jump on trends to sell products because they believe it’s rather inauthentic to them. Gen Z feels that misused memes are as embarrassing as they are off-putting, so they absolutely detest them.
Lack of Multitasking Abilities on Devices

The younger generation wants their devices to handle multitasking effortlessly so they’re big believers in having split-screen viewing and picture-in-picture mode, for example. It annoys them when they can’t play videos in the background because they like to watch videos while messaging friends or browsing social media while streaming music. They feel limited when they use devices that don’t support this feature—they expect more functionality!
Websites Not Offering ‘Sign in with Apple’ or ‘Google’ Options

Creating new accounts on websites feels like a hassle to Gen Z and they prefer using “Sign in with Apple” or “Sign in with Google” buttons for quick access. Any site that doesn’t offer these options annoys them and they really don’t like having to fill out forms & remember another password. Other generations may not care about creating accounts the old-fashioned way but Gen Z takes convenience quite seriously.
Online Forms That Don’t Auto-Fill Information

Likewise, filling out online forms manually is a hassle for Gen Z because they rely on browsers & apps to auto-fill their information to save time—any websites that don’t support auto-fill aren’t ones they’ll use. Typing in details like address and payment info over and over feels much too tedious for this generation, even though other people don’t mind entering their information each time. Yet Gen Z values speed & efficiency in every part of their lives, including online.
Online Stores Not Accepting Mobile Payment Apps Like Venmo

Gen Z prefers using mobile payment apps like Venmo or Cash App for every interaction, so they get frustrated by online stores that don’t accept these payment methods. They believe entering credit card details is way too much work, while other generations are usually fine with traditional payment options. But for Gen Z, tapping a button to pay instantly is the only way to do so.
Lack of Skip Buttons on Video Ads

It’s no secret that Gen Z spends a lot of time online—they don’t want to waste precious seconds on unskippable commercials so Gen Z gets really annoyed when they can’t do so. Being forced to sit through long ads feels like a total waste of time and disrupts their viewing experience. It’s quite strange, really, since most older viewers are used to sitting through commercials.
Phones Without High-Quality Front Cameras

A smartphone without a top-notch front camera isn’t one that Gen Z would ever consider buying because they want crisp, clear photos to share on Instagram & Snapchat. A low-resolution front camera just doesn’t cut it for them—but other generations care more about battery life or durability. Gen Z prioritizes having a good selfie camera to capture and share their daily lives with their loved ones.
