It’s funny how many things people in America complain about buying…yet they still swipe the card for them. It happens again & again. No matter how much we complain about the cost, we’re right back at it. In fact, we spoke to some readers about this & here are twelve purchases they said they regret but repeat. Do any of these sound familiar to you?

Annual theme park passes with blackout dates

Families in Florida & California can’t resist those shiny annual passes because they sound like a deal. But then blackout days block all the weekends you’re free. Once you factor in extra parking fees & expensive food, it feels like a bad call, yet every year, people continue to buy these passes. It’s usually when the sales hit or relatives visit.
Bulk produce and dairy

You might think that a three-pound tub of spinach from the warehouse club is a smart idea. But it’ll probably wilt in the fridge after a few days. The same goes for yogurts in packs of 48, as nobody eats that much before the sell-by date. Yet most memberships are set on auto-renew, so the giant carts keep rolling out.
Store credit cards

Hearing, “want to save 20% on today’s purchase?” works every time. Many shoppers sign up at the register for store credit cards & save on the spot, then regret it when the interest rate kicks in. The next holiday season, the same routine plays out again. It’s a different store logo on the card, but the same mistakes.
Gym memberships in January

When the first week of January comes, the gyms are packed & sign-up tables are busy with people swiping their cards. They think it’ll finally be the year they stay consistent. But a few weeks later, the workout schedules have disappeared, yet the gym membership keeps draining the account. They’ll make the same promise the next New Year.
Mattress store add-ons

Buying a mattress in America usually involves buying the whole package. The salesperson tells you about special pillows & protectors, as well as warranties that sound necessary in the moment. But you’re usually just stuck with extras you hardly touch. Years later, when you need a new mattress, somehow you walk out with the same bundle all over again.
Fast-food value meals

Those combo meals look cheap when you’re hungry. They’re completely different once tax & any add-ons get added, as the bill isn’t small at all. Worse still, all that grease makes you feel sluggish after eating, and you tell yourself you could’ve done better…until you buy it again. The drive-thru window pulls you right back in.
Overpriced airport parking

On-site airport parking seems like the best idea when you’re traveling. After all, nobody wants to lug around their suitcase & travel to find a different parking lot that’s far away from the airport. Then you look at the bill. It looks like you rented a car instead of parking one, so you swear off it until the next flight rolls around. You’re swiping your card again.
Drive-thru breakfasts on weekday mornings

Anytime that you’re running late, the drive-thru breakfast is there to save the day. It makes you feel full in just a few minutes. Unfortunately, the cost adds up fast & the food never feels great once you’re at work. But that regret isn’t enough to stop you. You’ll be there again the next time you have a rushed morning.
State lottery tickets

Many Americans buy scratch-offs & quick picks with the belief that maybe this time will be different. It isn’t. A few bucks disappear & regret sinks in almost instantly, and then payday comes again. Time to buy another round of tickets because maybe, just maybe, this is the time you’ll win.
College textbooks from campus stores

Every semester, students line up & drop hundreds on brand-new books that they really wish they didn’t have to get. They’re useless after finals. Why? Because the buyback counter only gives them pocket change, although they’ll buy the new set when classes start again. They have no other choice.
Souvenir cups from movie theaters

Paying a little extra for a refillable or souvenir cup is a good deal at the movie theater, but perhaps not once the movie ends. You’re unlikely to use the cup ever again & it’ll just stay as a reminder that you wasted your cash. Yet you’ll buy the next souvenir cup anyway. Why can’t we give it up?
Tax software add-ons

Tax season in the U.S. is already a pain. And then you have the tax software to worry about, which comes with offers like audit protection & faster processing. Most people just keep clicking yes to it all, even though they don’t really need everything. People gripe about it every April. However, next year they’re back, clicking through the same prompts again.
