While flirting is supposed to be fun, there are some things women do to get a man’s attention that make them look like they’re trying way too hard.
The unanswered messages

There’s nothing wrong with sending flirty messages. There is, however, an issue when you send multiple flirty messages, one after another, because a guy ignored the first one. Some women think they’re being cute when they send a funny picture, a text, and then a message about whether he’s forgotten her already.
But it’s not. It doesn’t look cute or persistent, but rather pretty overwhelming, and most guys will assume she’s desperate for a response. They’d prefer a woman to take their time, especially when nobody’s answering the first message.
The imaginary competition

Acting jealous over a man who’s not even your boyfriend is quite weird. Still, for some reason, a few women think they’re being flirty when they jokingly become jealous about a man posting a photo with another woman.
They might even pretend to be offended when he mentions another woman. They’re hoping he’ll find their possessiveness adorable. The truth is, he probably isn’t going to be so amused, and he’ll actually feel like she’s putting him in the spotlight. It’s not fun in the slightest.
The suspiciously perfect match

He says he loves football, and now she’s a huge fan. It’s kind of strange, really, because she wasn’t able to name a single player last week, but now she’s supposedly obsessed with it. A few women try to pretend they have things in common with a guy by sharing the same likes.
But they don’t. It tends to be pretty obvious when someone’s pretending to enjoy things they don’t actually like or even understand. The majority of guys would be more interested in a woman who can share what she truly likes. It’d make for a more interesting conversation, after all.
The carefully staged admirer

Everyone’s heard of ‘playing hard to get,’ and sure, sometimes it’s cute. But then there are the times when a woman will try to make a guy jealous by pretending to be unavailable. She might deliberately tell a man that she has a dozen guys chasing her, just to make him more interested.
She’s hoping he’ll become jealous enough to chase her. Maybe he will. Or maybe he’ll think that she’s more interested in somebody else and give up the whole thing. He’ll probably recognize that she’s doing it all for his attention, and that’s certainly not a good look.
The permanently open schedule

There’s a big difference between being flexible and being desperate. Take, for example, a woman who cancels her plans with other people because a guy asks her out last-minute. This kind of behavior makes a woman seem a little lame.
Don’t get us wrong, being enthusiastic about seeing someone is perfectly normal. It’s just that, when a woman constantly abandons her plans for him, she looks desperate. It’ll make a guy wonder whether she actually has anything going on, or whether she’s just pining for him.
The compliment trap

It’s quite easy to tell when someone’s fishing for compliments, no matter how subtle they might think they’re being. A woman might say something like, ‘I look absolutely terrible today,’ and expect a guy to respond with a compliment.
Perhaps he will. Perhaps he won’t. But one thing he will do is remember that she was being pretty desperate. Guys struggle to flirt naturally with women who keep creating opportunities to reassure them.
The sudden star of the room

A guy walks into the room, and a certain woman’s behavior changes entirely. She decides she’s going to start telling the funniest stories and laughing the loudest, mostly as a way to flirt. She wants to seem like she’s the most interesting person in the room.
Except, that’s not how it comes across, and most guys think she’s trying to fight for attention instead. It doesn’t look attractive. If anything, the majority of guys would prefer talking to a woman when she isn’t performing for the entire room.
The innocent touch that goes further

A quick hug goodbye can be just that, a quick hug. Brushing someone’s hand doesn’t necessarily need to be much more, either. Yet there are some women who believe that forcing romantic tension in those moments is a good thing.
They might say or do something suggestive to create a spark. They might hold onto his arm a little longer than expected, for example, or make a teasing comment about an innocent touch. The thing is, this can sometimes come across as unwanted pressure. Doing it too much can make a woman seem a lot less independent than she might realize.
The nickname that arrives too early

Nicknames can be cute sometimes, but there’s a time and a place. Giving someone an overly s***al nickname doesn’t usually come off as romantic or even flirty. It’s actually pretty awkward, especially when it’s from a woman you’ve only met a handful of times.
It sometimes gets so awkward that a guy starts avoiding conversation with her. Yes, he really doesn’t want to hear anything so overdone. It just sounds so desperate.
The extra-cute voice

There are a few women who seem convinced that talking like a little girl is attractive. They’ll stretch out their words and put on an overly sweet voice because, for some reason, they think it’ll make a man fall for them. Newsflash, it’s not adorable.
It actually makes most men feel creeped out that a grown woman is speaking like that. It’s even worse when he notices her speaking normally around her friends. Baby talk can be affectionate between couples, sure, but that’s about it.
The goodbye that never ends

It’s only been four hours since their first date. Yet she’s already messaging him to say how much she misses him, and she’s acting almost like he’s gone off to war. She probably thinks it’s romantic when she makes comments like that.
He thinks it’s needy. It’s fine to enjoy someone’s company, but it’s the sheer intensity of talking about how much you miss a guy after one day that comes across as desperate. He might not want a second date after that.
